XCOM: Enemy Within on Steam Deck – Crash During Save Loading?
Just got my new Steam Deck OLED, and everything was running smoothly with XCOM: Enemy Within until recently.

The problem is that when I try to load my current (or newer) saves file on the Steam Deck, the game crashes to Steam OS. Interestingly, an older save loads fine on the Steam Deck, and the current save works on my Windows PC.

Here's what I've tried so far to troubleshoot:

· Rebooted the Steam Deck.

· Forced compatibility mode for Proton from "Experimental" to "Proton 8.0-4".

· Opened the older (working) save and then attempted to load the newer (broken) saves.

· Created a new save on Windows and tried to open it on the Steam Deck.

EDIT: I have also verified the integrity of the game files on the Steam Deck.

Has anyone else faced this issue before? Any suggestions on how to fix it?

I feel like it's something to do with the save being used back and forth between Windows and SteamOS on the Deck.

RESOLUTION: I believe I resolved this issue by forcing the game to be ran under Proton 7.0-6. This is configurable by navigating to the “Home Screen > Select XCOM: Enemy Unknown > Gear Icon > Properties > Compatibility > Force the use of a specific Steam Play compatibility tool". Select “Proton 7.0-6”. I have been successfully able to use my latest saves from the Steam Deck and back to Windows a few times now. I’ll update if this break.

Just tried this after my autosaves kept crashing and it still works. Thank you!

Hi, the same problem was, except that even my old saves did not start, I started the game again 4 times a day, tried it on a newer version of proton, did not help, put it on proton 7.0-6, everything worked, thank you very much
