Capturing a live alien
Other than my XCOM Squad pretty much wrecks havoc wherever it goes against the alien bastards, it is having a hard time capturing one alive, mainly the guys that carries the Arc thrower usually dies first. ( even when it's in good cover and protected when my squad can.

I lost a sgt ( new sgt ) and a RK ( took place for one that is injured ) due attempting to catch one alive. Any recommationd on who I should I should pick the job for? Or which alien I should focus on?

For the alien I tried going after the " common " ones, not the elemental ones and the other varients.

I play on Normal difficulty, no dlc activated or expansion.

on specific capture missions i use multiple players with arc throwers.

I use rookies or assault. Rookies, because it won't matter if they fail and die. Assault, because they're frequently already close to enemies, due to the shotgun. Any soldier will do, except I can't picture a sniper using an ARC. Multiple soldiers was a good suggestion, esp if you're having trouble.

I personally use assaulters as the core of my squad,
with run'n'gun and double shot very effective with all infantry style
weapons. I use steadfast perk too as greatly reduces the chance of panic.
I am currently playing EW with L/W mod and a few "persolal tweaks" like an
extra pocket on the high end armour. Then everyone can carry an arc all
the time then or an extra grenade... Love 'nades, use em all the time.

I only catch them when it's convenient, I don't go out of my way to catch one, and I don't set my soldiers up to get shot at next turn

As Syntax and baddoggs pointed out, your best bets are probably either rookies or assault soldiers. I would also recommend waiting to try and capture one until you're fighting the last alien left in a mission, so you don't have to worry about others sneaking up on you.

I've found using a Support with Sprinter is good when teamed with a Heavy with Bullet Swarm. The Support has lower damage and the longer running range, while the Heavy can shoot, then run to cover, or finish them off if it becomes too risky. So you can shoot with the Support, then go into zap with the Heavy if it's a weaker alien. Or shoot a tougher alien with the Heavy, then sprint in to zap, with the Heavy's second shot as back-up. Other squad members can pick off the other aliens in the area so you only have to focus on capturing one. Hope that helps.

I don't really use it, so I don't know how useful this advice is, but you might want to try using Disarming Shot. If you've got everything else killed, it should give you at least one turn in which the capture target can't shoot at you.

Have your sniper use the disabling shot on the alien you want to capture before moving in, that'll increase your survivability rate tenfolds.

Suppression also works, but you risk killing that alien if he goes YOLO on you and tries to shoot you regardless of suppression...

Tip: use Supports to capture aliens with (they can move furthest)
Assault's should be used as back up when things goes unexpected

I prefer sprinter supports or assaults with bonus to health based on armor. Never use rookies.

I always used Assault with Arc thrower, (probably because the shotgun makes them powerful in close range anyway) make sure he/she is likely to survive, and have medic at the ready. A capture is something you set up. Last capture I made was an Outsider, I used a grenade to blow up a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ wall so my assault could run in and get the capture.

Same mission in which I ran to a bundle of rocks and a tree to capture a sectoid, and used a support to throw a smoke bomb and ran my rookie in to help out.
