Recommended mods 2022

Hi all,
I would like to play this game again, so I am looking for mods.
I searched the inet for recommendations but they are very old (even the newest is three years old).
So, I thought I would ask around for a set of solid and fun mods that can be played through without bugs and crashes all the way till the end.

Some things I'd like:
- somewhat longer gameplay (vanilla was too short, Long War was too long, is there anything in between?)
- larger fights (deploy larger squads and more/stronger enemies, maybe bosses)
- greatly improved air combat (just reading up on Squadron Unleashed 2, sounds like fun)
- UI improvements and time savers (Don't Waste My Time comes to mind)
- more interesting research and facilities (make the game more interesting in a lore-friendly way)
- more interesting skills and skill combinations (I would like to mix and match the classes of my soldiers in any way I see fit, maybe more levels?)
- more interesting weapons (it's not a huge arsenal I am looking for, I am after good functionality for each class)
- more equipment slots on soldiers (I prefer people on my team)
- smarter civilians (my recollection is that they were just running all over the place waiting to be shot/converted)
- better transportation options (from/to combat)
- higher quality sounds (immersion is everything, so I'd like more details and accurate positional audio)
- better graphics and camera (I don't need UHD@4k and 360 degree camera rotation; just, you know, better and smoother)

Please post only combinations you played through and found to be reliable (bug- and crash-free) and fun.

The game wasn't mod friendly so I doubt you'll find many mods with this. Long War mode will most likely be only the solid choice you'll have, which includes more weapons and equipments, options etc but not sounds or graphics. As I said modding this game was a chore.

Long War is enough to make you busy for ages though, if you like its challenge

Long War also has a second wave option that makes the campaign shorter.
