Did corpses serve any point in the original UFO Defense?
From what I recall, in the original UFO Defense researching corpses just gave you a pretty picture of a dissected alien and some "flavor text". Was there any point in researching corpses at all in the original? The only aliens you had to absolutely research in the original was Sectoid/Ethereal Leaers/Commanders to get to Cydonia(any psi commander)

If I remember right, when you dissectred an alien in the original XCOM, it increase the damage you could do to them since you learned the vital organ locations.

Are you sure thats not Vital Point Targeting? UFOExtender? XCOMUtil?
floater, sectoid, and 1 other one I am forgetting are used to make the 3 boosters for aircraft, muton corpses for forge projects, seekers for camo grenades, thinmen for chem grenades, chryssalids for meele armor, berserkers for combat stims and as stated above vital point targeting, its a perk some classes get as well as an item. Once you have all you want/need you can just sell em for cash though

(INFORMATION ABOUT ENEMY UNKNOWN AND NOT UFO DEFENSE HERE)

I meant UFO Defense, not Enemy Unknown. "Original X-COM" does not mean Enemy Unknown, as it wasn't the first in the series. UFO Defense was.

Nope, it was TFTD where certain corpses had to be researched in order to advance to certain techs

Technically the first XCOM was called UFO: Enemy Unknown. It was only known as XCOM: UFO Defense in North America. Bascially we have two games called Enemy Unknown.
Well...you could start researching Alien Origins to begin beating the game.
The descriptions you got along with the pictures were the point, as they often informed you what damage types a particular alien resisted or was weak against such as Reapers being weak to fire damage or Lids being weak to... explosives IIRC.

Beyond that you could sometimes get a tech from it. I think you needed a Cyberdisc for the flying HWP ? It`s been a while.

No, you just needed to capture a psi alien thats a commander to unlock "The Martian Solution". Ever hear of "one mission XCOM"?

Thats useful for maybe the first time around. I could be researching something else.

Yeah, but an autopsy goes so quickly and you run out of worthwile research so quickly that you might as well do them while you`re waiting for the stuff you need.
in EFO Defense and TFTD andApocalyps corpses served no purpose beyond the autopsy and research credit.

In EU they offered the research credit that sped up parts of some research groups. They also gave you some boosts around dealing damage and hitting enemies. Lastly some could be made into boosts.

I assume when you asked the question you meant the orginal. I still have the game box on my game shelf, says X-COM UFO Defense (1994 Microprose). Played it many many times over the years. Anyway, that way I remember about as I said. Gad, I just realized that game box is 20 years old.....

U needed to interrogate some of the aliens to get some research options, i remember the hunt for crysalids so i coud get better armor research (same in tftd, it was a pain to get one of this walking diver armors alive) but for autopsy im not sure anymore if they gave u research too, but i think the autopsys countet in for u monthly ranking so no nations bucked out.
Oh yes and one of the main uses of the corps where to get cash so u dont go in the negative cash, 20k cash per corpse....
