Xcom 2 has a better story, better mechanics (removable overwatch) not OP melee, better graphics, better character custumisation, better end game goal, but has bugged camera ( It shows only movements that are in "line of sight" (even tho target definition ♥♥♥♥♥ on that but still))
Both are equally good .
Not saying the procedual map generation in xcom 2 is much better but at least it's not the same thing i've been seeing every time.
Why don't you tell us why you like them both?
While XCOM 2 has *some* overall technological advancements (aside from procedural map generation, tactical depths and enhanced character customisation i'm not even able to precisely name them, that's for relevance) i prefer the tech design, the realistically grounded late 20th/ early 21st century setting and the overall art direction of XCOM 1.
Opposite to Pauloadrade224 i think XCOM 1 has a superior story and a higher endgame value.
As for the story-part: XCOM 1 gives you characters (Shen, Vahlen, Bradford) that you can emphasise with, that do have actual conflicts and relationship with each other that evolve over the time. Half way through, the Alien threat starts terror attacks, it feels kind of dramatic, Council missions do have individual voicelines that enhance the feeling of urge and drama or even cutscenes. Then EXALT subversion and Base attack event are further rising the pressure. Satellite system works well, the relay system in XCOM 2 seems half baked.
In XCOM 2 characters are all just there, there are extensive cutscenes to highlight storyprogression as well, but still they are all just doing their thing, no conflict, no character progression, story has no spectacular turning points, no dramatic highlight events (at least i didnt felt it). While the whole story in XCOm 2 revolves around the question 'what is Advent', or 'what is the Avaar project', you uncover the unhealthy truth step by step. But the genuinely clever premise is rather wasted in a flat plot that plays out as an unimpressive chain of events.
As for the both games endgame value, the list of lost council members in XCOM 1 is irreversible, the Avatar clock in XCOM 2 is totally unpredictable. At one certain point i was even able to turn it back. When i finished XCOM 2 i had no interest in doing more endgame, i would jump back into my XCOM 1 endgame anytime again.
For further details and some specific criticism on balancing in XCOM 1 read my XCOM 2 review, i compare both games there as well.
XCOM 2 has resource hunting instead of spaceship-shooting; they're both essentially just multiple-choice clicking but the spaceship-shooting felt more cinematic.
Storywise the first game is cartoonish but entertaining and it builds up to a great ending. I felt emotionally engaged with the story. XCOM 2's ending felt a bit flat, and tonally it has the same problem that affected the comics industry in the 1990s - it's darker-and-edgier, but I didn't feel engaged with the story or characters.
I suspect that you could port EU/EW into the XCOM 2 engine without losing anything, so on that level the sequel is a better game and I enjoyed it, but I don't feel the need to replay it as much. The timed missions bugged me.
I think, i like XcomLW little bit more then XC2LW.
What about Vanilla XcomEU,EW,Xcom2, WotC, Tryed it, but ehh... Did play xcomew about 1-2 hours, BORING! And Complete Xcom2(Boring too) What about WotC - Better, but still, not a LW.
