Long War: Deluge
Anyone have advice for Deluge? The drops and pods are so random that strategy barely seems like part of the equation at all. I’m starting to wonder if the Furies are really worth the headache.

So far, the most successful lineup seems to be:
Concealment scout w/ shotgun
DPS Assault
Psi-Tank Assault
Overwatch Infantry
Heat Gunner w/ double tap
Support Grenade Medic w/ Regen Biofield
Precision Shot Sniper
Snap Shot Sniper (because my other precision is unavailable)

Still can’t seem to get past the last push

Ok

so I got reflex rifle squadsight snipers placed in the towers. I'd use regular sniper rifles except well this gives me snap shot and allows me a good disable shot.

or lock and load then shoot. I use double tap.

he's important up there.

I got a Pathfinder MEC. he has lightning reflexes. also very important. you could I suppose stealth grenade a hover shiv with elerium turbos, and launch it at the goal. reasonably sure that would work.

I’ve been putting my snipers in the first tower. They can usually see almost everything from there. I don’t like using strike rifles (still using lasers) with my snipers very much. I always seem to wind up out of squadsight range when I need them. Sounds like you think I should swap the snap shot sniper with a disabler, though.

I have no MECs. I’ve been able to get the scout within two dashes of the truck reasonably consistently, but I keep getting swarmed and flanked by the last pod and the buttload of drops they throw at me right at the end.

Also, everyone is a Tech Sergeant except the DPS Assault (GSGT) and the Psi Tank Assault (SGT).

It's worth keeping in mind that Deluge can be technically won without killing any ayys.

As soon as a soldier reaches the truck, the cutscene triggers and the mission is won. I've even fooled around with setting up 'cinematic' suppression and leaving ayys active near the truck to 'spice up' the cutscene.

If you are having trouble finishing off the drop-ins, try to get your one of your soldiers to the zone to bypass them. Active ayys don't provide any rewards, but it's a good last-resort if you can't kill that Mechtoid four tiles away from your Sniper.

I follow exactly that strategy. Instead of trying to kill all aliens from last drop/spawn I usually just rush with super fast scout/assault straight for the truck. And that seems challenging enough with all those Mechtoids on overwatch :D

See the bit in my op about my concealment scout getting swarmed and flanked (and, therefore, exposed and toasted).

Made it with some rather lucky pods. That disabler did get me out of a couple jams, though.
