Ladders?

I may just be stupid, but I can't figure out how to climb a ladder. I've heard others talk about using them, but I simply cannot find out how. Any help?

These are used automatically if you go to a point upstairs

Click on the ground at the top of where the ladder is and/or you wish to get to. If there is a ladder between where your people start and where they are going to, they will use it.
Unless there is someone else standing at either the bottom or the top of it. They they will block it for anyone else to use.

other things can block ladders
for example if they are on fire you can't climb them for a few turns (unless you have a fireproof armor)
and if someone destroyed a part of the ladder with an explosion you can't use it

Thanks, I guess something must have been blocking the one I was trying to climb then.
