Major Temple Assault Bug
Hey-o, guys. So, I just got to the Temple Ship Assault mission after strapping my best soldier into the Gollop Chamber machine. However, the last mission is currently semi-unplayable because nearly all of the massive walls dividing stretches of room from each other are completely missing. The one at the very start is gone, there's a few working in the middle, and the final one at the end when you face off with the three Ethereal and two Muton Elites is totally missing. Even worse, that wall, unlike the first one, doesn't even show that you can take full cover next to it, but it does show that you can take full cover on the other side of it.

At one point, I had my Support scout ahead, and she was mind-controlled. The rest of the party stayed back on the other side of the door, and, unfortunately, she ran through and got Overwatch'd to death. I wanted to revive her, but her body turned invisible and blocked the doorway. I waited around 5-7 rounds for her to die so the rest of my team could walk through, but she never died, and they couldn't go through.

This mission's totally ruined on my end. Verifying the game cache didn't work, which is usually the case, so don't waste your time with that stupid, lazy suggestion.

I have the same issue with walls missing entirely in Temple Ship Assault. Right off the bat, the first set of doors and walls aren't rendered properly. If you switch into third-person mode during a move, though, they render like they're supposed to. The lighting is also off and you can't really see. It's pretty unpleasant.

I made the big mistake of trying to play the mission anyway, and it turns out that Overwatch is somehow broken along with the walls missing. I'd put my soldiers on Overwatch, and the enemy would move into a flanking position with no Overwatch fire being triggered, essentially getting free shots (that seemed to miss more frequently than usual as well).

It's like trying to play half-blind. You can't really get a feel for the combat. The Sectopods somehow killed my Volunteer even though he didn't have line-of-sight on them, so these last-mission glitches ruined my first playthrough. Luckily, it allows a restart, but it's not like I'm going to go any further until it gets fixed.

Really disappointing, considering how much time I put in this, and the fact that this is an Ironman run. This needs to be fixed. I tried uninstalling a Windows Update because I thought, hey, maybe it's another bad update messing with the game somehow, but nothing changed. I loaded a different mission and there are no glitches. It's just Temple Ship Assault. Tweaking settings and all that didn't do anything. Validating files does nothing on my end either.

TL;DR

Some walls and doors don't render in Temple Ship Assault mission. Combat seems to be broken somehow too. Aliens moving around the missing walls get into position to fire at soldiers without getting shot at by Overwatch. Unplayable. Can't finish game without a fix. Validating files / tweaking settings does nothing.

Yeah, there wasn't any fix for it that I could find. It was like no-one else had ever had the problem. The worst part was that I couldn't use cover where those walls should've been, even though aliens couldn't shoot through them. I ended up having to play that mission through semi-normally, and then cheesed the hell out of the last boss by having a soldier run straight into the last room while a Squadshot-equipped Sniper just insta-killed the main guy.

I haven't been able to find anything either. Same deal with not being able to use cover. It's so wonky overall that I'm worried it's going to ruin my Ironman run (again) if I try to play it anyway, so I'm holding off. I filed a support request with 2K. Are you running an RTX 2080?
Mitchel-256 Mar 14, 2020 @ 8:10pm
Nah, no RTX 2080. At the very least, it's the final mission, and killing the boss is game over. The rest of the mission isn't too bad if you play it slow 'n' steady, but the cheese strat for taking out the final boss saved me a lot of headache.

Enough of this, the original post didn't get any attention back in Aug 8, 2019 even if the OP poster has jumped back in now. The Temple Ship and Battleships for that matter don't have uniform walls (much is wide open, you have to move out high and scroll/turn around to see what is possible). I think we all have issues with some of the 3rd person perspectives forced into by corner view limits on any given map, but the enemy can only see you if you can see them in most cases. Scroll through all the soldiers before making any decisions and remember if they saw you move in and out of view even briefly, you are a valid target.

Edit: before anyone asks, you get a loud beep if spotted briefly during a move.

Get a moderator if you don't like it. I know it's a necropost, but nobody paid any attention, and I was willing to help him if he needed it, as opposed to him making another post on the same topic. Chill out.

Appears simply perceived problems, especially for a 2012 game that has zero chance of updates at this point. But I don't care, hog the forum.

Literally just the one post that still has no actual solution from the community or the devs, but, okay. Keep whining about it.

Here's one for the time capsule. I'm "socially distancing" myself due to COVID-19. I was hoping to beat this game and move onto XCOM2 but I'm running into the same bug with the temple walls.

Intel(R) HD Graphics 4000
Driver File Version: 10.18.0010.5100

Has anyone found a fix?

restarting the mission is likely the only way. I've never personally had the issue, I assume you either missed an enemy or an enemy fell off the map.

kill the volunteer and you can restart the level use void rift on him.

No luck so far. The only recommendation 2K provided that I hadn't already tried was reinstalling DirectX, which didn't work. Verifying the game cache - as Mitchel-256 already mentioned - does nothing. Uninstalling and reinstalling the game does nothing. My graphics card is updated to the latest driver, so that also does nothing.

HoosierLarry mentions that he's using Intel HD Graphics 4000 and Mitchel-256 says he's not on a 2080 like me, so I guess we can probably rule out a specific graphics card issue. As for your recommendation to restart the mission, red255, the mission - at least for me - was already restarted once, and I still had the same problem. I can't restart the mission now because of Ironman mode (experiencing the glory of a hard-fought campaign, only to be smited by a bug...).

I've provided 2K with my launch.log files, so hopefully they'll be able to find an error or something that shows what's going on. I'll post back here when I learn more.

:steamfacepalm: Really, now you're playing Ironman while trying to isolate a problem you reported to the Devs which no one said they had or expressed interest in back in 2019 of this thread?
HoosierLarry Mar 18, 2020 @ 7:54pm
@Cybersapien I don't know about you but I proceeded with the mission. I only ran into a few wall issues. The walls & doors at the beginning and the long 1 square wide corridors. I'm not sure how it works but I wonder if installing the latest Unreal Engine would solve the problem. I may download it and experiment and unpack the map to see if I can fix it.
Mitchel-256 Mar 18, 2020 @ 8:12pm
Yeah, as Cybersapien, redd255, and I said, it doesn't seem to have any bearing on the setups people are running with, the fixes they attempt, or any mods they may be running, as well as the difficulty of their campaigns. It appears to be something wrong with how the game is setting itself up, but I couldn't possibly know what.

Even a space or two can make the difference between them seeing you and/or having cover at the end of the move (must see the end of move symbol) . That is how it works.
