Is this a bug? Can't take actions?

Hey guys, just bought the game in the sale. Always wanted to try this series and was pretty excited to get going especially after the tutorial got me hyped.

Unfortunately I've tried the first mission twice now and both times I've found myself having to quit due to being unable to take an action. The first time I tried to make my character Overwatch and the 'Okay' button wouldn't work. Eventually resolved this by finding out the keyboard shortcut ('Y') and hitting that, which worked. Unfortunately the next turn, I tried to use my heavy on the roof to fire his rocket launcher but was unable to do this, or take any other action or get out of the action screen (couldn't even bring up the menu!).

Second time, didn't bother customising my characters this time as I lost all that last time. Went straight in and managed to do everything as I did last time but without problems. After firing my rocket and destroying the enemies I moved my boys forward and encountered some new enemies, and promptly the same issue happened again! Couldn't Overwatch my characters (settled for just moving them), and then my heavy on the roof couldn't take ANY action whatsoever, forcing me to quit the game...

This is getting really frustrating, so I just want to know: Is this an issue with my computer or the game or what? And I just wanted to see if anyone else has this issues and if they're resolvable before I ask for a refund.

I'm using a Macbook Pro with OS X Capitan 10.11.5. I'm playing the Complete Edition with Enemy Within.

do you own enemy within?

I seem to recall this bug happening more in enemy unknown.

also if you take the tutorial you are forced to take the tutorial required action and no other action will do.

so try not running the tutorial, which forces you to take stupid actions.

It's worth doing the tutotial once for the extra story, then once you get to the end of the tutotial quiting that game and then never doing the tutorial ever again.

I do remember that in the second tutorial mission there's one place it wants you to use a rocket, however as I've never tryed to use it before that point I don't know if it would stop you from using it before said place.

I did run the tutorial but I think I've finished it now. The mission I'm referring to is the mission after the tutorial, I was forced to take a couple of actions at the start of that mission but then left to my own devices as far as I can tell. Immediately after that was when I began encountering problems haha...

+ Yeah I said in the OP I have the Complete Edition with Enemy Within, and yes I'm running the expansion

Ahh really?? I guess I could have messed up there then. Maybe I'll try it without the tutorial tomorrow but I'm wary about going over the 2 hour limit in case I need a refund for this game. This hasn't been a promising start really lol

Update: This is a problem with the tutorial.

If you want to play the tutorial but you're having this problem, the fix is just to play the tutorial and then quit and start a new game without tutorial selected (you can still keep the Meld tutorial on)

Game's running smoothly now that I've got the tutorial off

I made a 30 minute 'tutorial' where I talk about the game for 30 minutes. mostly the stategic layer, though. because I wouldn't be able to cover the tactical layer in a short duration.
