Tips on fighting chrysalids?
I recently had a team of five troops wipe on a mission where i was up against all chrysalids. I've always had trouble with them. If you guys could give me some tips on dealing with them i'd problibly have a better time in this game. :)

The best thing to fight against chrysalids is in XCOM enemy within, to use a mech with a flamethrower. It'll cause them to panic and make them an easy target

Thanks for the tip. I'll make sure to have a least one mech on stand by

Don't run out in the open. That's how you end up overwhelmed.

Other than that, they're not particularly hard to kill. Just shoot them.

Grenades, rockets and assaults work pretty well. If you can get an assault with the close combat specialist, or close encounters perk, then they'll be laughably easy to kill.

Early game i really like flashbang on Crys as it lowers thier movement a TON if you manage to get a good group together.

It is good not to space all your guys too far apart (or too close) or use all your movement up. I also like to have a couple assault guys up front with aggresion, lightning reflexes, rapid fire and close combat. Even so that boat load of them mission is pretty hard at low lvl's. I remeber one play through I got it early and while I completed it nobody came back.

Also the sniper with snapshot, good ground, opportunist and in the zone along with a plasma sniper rifle are just amazing.

Blast em!
Assuming you're playing vanilla xcom : at least one needle grenade because chryssalids like to stack - place a well aimed grenade just in the middle of the pod.

Keep distance, chryssalids like to charge you and do not take cover. Flashbangs will severely reduce their movement.
Movement is something like 7 tiles x 2.

A single shotgun blast will instakill early chryssalids. Combined with close combat specialist and close encounters will result in 2-3 free shots per turn.

Rockets ! Always a serious problem solver through large areas of the game. Rocket = dead xenos.

Sniper rifle aimed shot will deal a vast amount of damage to any alien you'll face.

At least shot them with rifles from point blank if you're confident to kill them on the same turn.

yeah generally speaking Crystallids don't have weapon fragments.

Rocket +Frag = dead pod. Shredder rocket +frag = dead pod (since the shred makes the frag do 4)

You should have rockets for the floaters and thin men in month 2.

Yep explosives and not rushing on missions with them is the best advise.

In the early months I often will fall back to give myself more space to fight each pod of them.

Also remember they don't have a ranged weapon so often you can stand in the open if it will give you a better shot and more distance.

Also it just came to mind that if you have enough soldiers, you can go up an elevated position, and put your guys on the edges of the place.... and if you can block all the edges, they won't be able to jump up! Since they can't shoot, and they can't jump up either to attack, they can't do anything to your guys! But I'm not sure if there is a position that you can completely blocked with the vanilla squad size... but anyways, you can also block doors with shivs and stuff like that... shivs are expendable... you could also use a rookie, but that's not really reccommended since they turn into zombies, and you'll need to throw a grenade on their corpse to stop them from becoming zombies...

And another thing... you can also use squadsight snipers to pick the lids off from out of sight... all you need is someone to spot for your snipers. Just get a line of sight on the lids, shoot with your snipers, and then retreat with your second action with your scout. They won't be able to attack you that way.

Look, I don't know what difficulty and Second wave settings TC is playing on.

I do Classic Ironman (no marathon) crystallids come with the first terror mission. By then I have one mec trooper and laser guns, and carapace armor. they go down, one to overwatch fire, one to the mec's kinetic strike, and one to the squad pumping red death from shotguns at it.

That sounds like the fishermans village mission. I've noticed it's been popping up very early in the game than it used to, so if you're still rolling assault rifles and base armor I'd not even do that mission.

yes that was the one. I had laser rifles and upgraded armor but my heavy and sniper didn't have laser weapons yet and one of my troops got ambushed by a zombie and took him out early. after that i did manage to kill at least 4 or 5 of them but i got overwelmed.
