Which do you like better? If you like 1 better than 2, why is that?

XCOM 2's expansion isn't out yet until August.

XCOM 2's random map generator is a little lifeless. I feel they went a little crazy with the RNG, for things that roll random.

XCOM 1 is done, XCOM 1 overhaul mods are done, XCOM 2's overhaul mods can't even really start until the Expansion comes out in August. or whatever the final expansion will be. Are they only doing one?

XCOM 2's PSI soldiers are rather powerful. So are the regular Soldiers I suppose.

Not really willing to compare them though because XCOM 1 is a finished product and XCOM 2 is still being worked on.

I prefer XCOM 1 just because of the setting - i would prefer to defend from an alien invasion than be the invader myself trying to retake the planet.

Also - turn timers [in xcom 2]

They both have their pros and cons

XCOM 1

Pros

No timer for most missions( ones that do are exlusively to counicel) favoring a more defensive playstyle over aggressive rushing (possible exception being terror missions)

End game weapons feel amazing , amour, PSI feel amazing wiping out swarms of aliens that have been murdering your boys left and right

Has base defense (with enemy within DLC even if its only one time, i think, XCOM 2 has it as well but not nearly as cool and never actually happened in my 3 play throughs of XCOM 2)

Pretty much polished as much as it can be and even a potato can run it at this point.

Cons

Terror missions, not the mission itself but an enemy wipeing out half the civilans on your first turn is frustrating. Zombie terror mission is major ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.

Upgrades in mid game don't feel much diffrent like early and late does.

EXALT, additioanl enemy fraction from DLC, kinda falls off after you wipe out their HQ. Not that i mind that they are gone but it'd still be nice to see them now and then fighting with the aliens (Long war mod, i think solves this issue? not 100% sure)

PSI and gene mods don't feel like a game changer like weapon and armour upgrades do.

MECS are way too expensive to be worth the trouble, in my opinion, never bothered with them because the cost to make even 4 of them is insane (franted if you do manage to sink the dosh in ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ they hit hard)

XCOM 2

Pros

All upgrades feel like an improvemnet rather then just 'meh' half the time

Psionics feel powerfuol and useful rather then just 'cool he did a thing that did 1 dmg'.

Stealth is pretty neat and wiping out and entire pod after setting them all up is very satisfying

Classes have more utility then the first game

Workshop support (seriously man its amazing)

(opinion again) DLC looks pretty cool, might even be better then enemy within but who knows.

'Terror missions' are more manageable

Engineers(staff) actually do more stuff now, scientist however don't really help much at first

Reloading no longer makes a soldier take a 'dead' turn

Cons

Timers, timers, timers (can be removed/extended with the workshop but still annoying)

No air game (sorta justified since haveing an entire air foce would be kind of hard to hide as a gurellia risitance group)

Still no real base defense and is really rare

Base layout is a bit wonkey and feels like there is less stuff to build (many building have duel purposes now)

As for which i like better, XCOM 2 because it feel 'faster' then XCOM 1 ,which in some months can drag due to nothing happening anywhere. XCOM 2's many point is the workshop which can improve the game greatly or change it to your liking where XCOM 1 is basiclly it, unless you want to get Long War or download other mods which may not be as quick or safe.

Honestly i can see why any person can love the first and hate the second, vise versa or like them both. Personally i love both games but XCOM 2 i like a little bit more.

My only real gripe with Xcom 2 is as red said the maps even though random are just too similar. There needs to be more tiles that aren't just city scape. I get why they are and it fits the story but after a few replays it's a all been there seen that.

Other than that Xcom 2 for me just feels like I have more variation in game and then the workshop comes along and just adds more of everything.

Don't get me wrong for me you can't go wrong with either of the vanilla games it's just that because of the workshop and it's a game still being developed Xcom2 just has more in thinking run.

Sacriledge, PSI does 5 damage, which is enough to 100% pop thin men and 100% two shot mutons.

you are thinking Long war PSI. which isn't fair.

But yeah its more limited compared to XCOM2's PSI and feels more tacked on.

XCOM2's PSI soldier can hold off half the map

I take a team of 4 into the final mission if I can, Superior Dodge and Plated armor war suits.

pretty much can't be hurt significantly. Soul Steal gets em back up to full. and they permanently dominate a bunch of units. like Gatekeepers. who permanently raise zombie helpers.

I downloaded a few map packs for X2, and now they are a lot more diverse... they don't add more "biomes", but there's still enough variation... and the expansion will add ruined cities, alien forests, tunnels etc... so that's great.

So you made my point right there with a good example. Workshop only adds value.

I prefer 1, the invasion feel is far more to my liking, the gear feels cooler, the maps buildings look better and more unique, and propably most of all it's MUCH more stable in my computer.
