How do you get more Meld?
There seem to be quite a few missions that have no Meld and even those with the 2 canisters give very little. I usually can only get one of the canisters and sometimes none. I am now able to build MEC's and need Meld as well as for Gene therapy. Is there any other way to get Meld besides those short lived canisters?

There is sometimes additional meld when you successfully complete missions involving crashed or landed UFOs (not counting the timed canisters), but it doesn't seem to be more than 5 or 10 units. Other than that, you really have to concentrate on either securing the meld canisters or completing the mission before they shut down. It's a time sensitive feature that's designed to prevent the player from turtling. Early game it's fairly easy to complete missions before the canisters shut down and you can easily stockpile two to three hundred meld before it gets really challenging. But if you want the meld you're going to have to take risks with your squad and not just sit with your ass on overwatch waiting for the aliens to come to you.

Many of the aliens give it as well when you don't blow them up. MiD game you should have no problem gathering it either. I tend to use Medics with the overwatch setup and sprinter and the occasional assault.

In vanilla game i's relatively easy. As mentioned, successfully taking a landed ship gets you some meld, as does killing certain alien types like Mechtoids.

The fact that in vanilla EW you can see how soon the canisters will degrade is a big help, since you will know ahead of time whether or not it's worth racing a trooper to dash to one. (In LW, you don't see that, and canisters will often go poof just as you get there).

An assault trooper, preferably with sprint ability, is best for meld collection in either game, since they can grab the meld from the cannister at the end of their yellow move if they can use the run & gun ablity that turn.

frd just capture an UFO in Vanilla dont get u Meld and u see first how much turns a canister has left when it is in sight, so it can still go poof without u ever know how much turns u have to sice it before.
Best for Meld collection is a Fist MEC, faster than any soldier and durable enove to survive if running into trouble.

Any UFO and abduction mission has 2 canisters, terror, exalt and council have none.

For the Extra Meld:
Mectoids, Heavy Floaters and, dam what was the third mechanical unit? .... not seeker, not normal Floater, not Sectopod, guess it was disc than... 5 per unit brought down.

all this LW players spray so much "alternate facts" about vanilla game, this mod is a pain as long its users are not able to distinguish betwen the versions...

Heh, sorry; I played the heck out of EW, then let it sit for several years. I only took up playing XCOM again when I found out about the LW mod, so sometimes the details of the two versions get mixed up in my mind.

"In addition to canisters, 5 Meld can also be recovered for each Mechtoid or Heavy Floater killed in a mission (unless killed by explosives)."

The wiki is wrong about the explosive, Melt is not weapon fragments.

I really hate Meld. You've got to have it and I can't get it. My last mission was a landed alien ship and right next to it within reach of turn 2 was a Meld canister. Great ! As I approached the canister 2 pods erruped. It took two turns to kill them before I could try for the canister. Then 3 Muton elites came at me and a Cyberdisc. By the time I could risk a run for the canister it was gone. The other one was so far in the ship that It couldn't be reached in time either. I can't build any MEC's or use the Bio Gene room for upgrades except for a small number of upgrades for my troops. True, I have gotton some small amount of Meld from Heavy floater and such but not nearly enough. This is frustrating, Is it not?

Meld is completely optional in vanilla, you can win the game without using any and it's not much harder. I understand the desire to have some though.

From what you say you are pretty far with campaign right now. If you want the Meld really hard consider using ghost armors on few soldiers and fast grab those canisters, fall back and dismantle resistance afterwards.
