Windows 10 issues
I have reinstalled several times. I have been able to play Enemy Unknown up to three days ago and now it will not load the selection screen for Enemy Within and Enemy Unknown load screen. I have windows 10 and spent the last several hours going through device manager and making sure that all of my drivers are up to date. Can someone please help me to get the game back up and running. I know I meet and exceed the setup requirements and I do understand that I have lost my save game information. I have even tried installing it on drive D for backup Steam Games option. I am at my wits end and very close to having completed the game.

I have checked and changed to the compatibility Windows 8 and the issue remains. This issue seems to be on XCom Enemy Unknown however the select window for choosing Enemy Unknown and Enemy Within does not pop up. There is the please wait loading and then itt crashes out completely. Both Steam Client Bootstrapper and Steam Client Webhelper attempt to run to resolve the issue taking up considerable memory in Task Manager but in the end are not responding. Any help with this issue wouldd be immensely appreciated. Just to go over what I have done so far to try to resolve this issue :

Delleted and reinnstalled three times including on a different drive.
Changed to compatibility Windows 8 mode.
Updated all of my drivers for all components within Device Manager.
Updated both my Steam and Windows 10.
Updated all graphics related drivers and adapters.
Verified I have more than twice the recommended ram and HD space for the game allotted as well ass the graphic card settings needed and processing power needed.

have you done a verify on steam? im having no such problems and i load and reload constantly.

Yes I have verified the installation through Steam and I have also checked all firewall settings. I have also checked with 2K Games and their official statement as of four days ago is the majority of their Steam games are no longer compatible with Windows 10. I am hoping that either there will be a new update from Windows that will correct this or that XCom will provide a path to correct these issues. None of these issues started until the latest update to Netfram within the Windows 10 path.

The official statement they posted wasn't "incompatible", but "unsupported". There have been reports of their support operatives mixing those words up.

So the XCom game is not longer supported by 2K Games and thus no patch to fix the Windows 10 issues are inn the works?

Okay I have done so much research on how to fix this and actually broke out the IT tech software to do a debugging of the entire install from Steam. Seems that those of us that are having the Windows 10 issues related to the last path have had their Windows netframe dll files changed by Microsoft! This has caused the followinng file msvcr100.dll to no longer be present or operational within many of the Steam games since the base interface is not on our machines but instead held by Steam in their cloud. Even when running in compatibility mode for Winndows 8 under the admin the game still fatally crasshes.

So if anyone has any suggestions on how to either get the msvcr100.dll to interface again wiith the new Netframe updates from Windows 10 or to have a bypass and allow XCom to run that wouuld be immensely helpful to a number of people experiencing these problems; and accordinng to Reddit there are thousands currently experiencing these issues.

The weird thing is that some people seem to still be running it on Win10 just fine.

I have one of those systems that do an automatic update due to this machine is not just a gaming machine during my spare time. So it is inevitable once everyonee downloads the new update that includes the Netframe cumulative update then the dll will no longger function in the XCom directory.

I had the same issue today. Had this massive Windows 10 update (creators thingymajig), and attempting to launch the game via steam or with the steam shortcut results in nothing happening. Since it was working fine the very night before and still works fine on an old PC using Windows Vista, it's pretty clearly this Windows update. After spending a day re-installing and trying all sorts of things (I use Long War with some custom stuff, so it was quite annoying), it seems just using the XcomEW exe in the install folder works. And all of a sudden it works launching from steam now too. Really weird.

Brand new windows update from yesterday definitely breaks the game. Go to the place in your computer and do what Dundalis said. Then exit the game from the start menu. Go back to Steam. Open the game like normal. Voila! it works in steam now

The latest Windows 10 update was pretty bad overall, I had to roll back as my computer couldn't get out of a restarting loop error.

Still not working after Dunsalis' suggestion.

So many steam games just don't start. Shadow man, GTAIV, this... There should be a disclaimer on the store pages of these games: "Warning: game does not start"

Have you tried verifying files?

Just got that PoS update myself. Went from running 50-58 processes to 120. Restored my old win 10(you have 10 days from time of update) and disabled updates. That's as far as 10 is going on this PC. Going to kill updates on my other PC before I have to go through this crap again.
