Tips for No Experience Run?

I haven't touched story mode yet. Instead I've been making my way through the quick game modes one by one.

I've gotten as far as the 5x5 limit challenge. Now I'm on No Experience mode. Tried it twice. Got further the second time, but still think I'm in over my head?

For those who've made it, what's your take?

Cheat. It's not very well designed, so just cheat.

Aside from that, there's other threads about this with more advice, but they're pretty old....

You mostly win this by being lucky, in my experience, but the times I've won have usually been with daggers and shields. You want to get rage on the daggers and haste on the shield, if you can, and just use all your energy to block every turn. I found it's best to always keep a slot free for a healing item and have some way to counter poison by the time you get to the later levels.
