So this is a neutral recommendation. This game has a ton of potential. Sinister Halloween is one of my guilty pleasures so I'm a fan of this dev. However, this game is currently very rough. I would say only buy this game to support development and if you're okay with a game that lacks overall polish.

This game does look good. I was also getting a steady 90 fps. So right off the bat, that's pretty impressive for a VR game. However, a lot of the mechanics are just not smooth enough. For example, I tried using the ice axe to zip line with my right hand, however, I would fall down each time. I come to find out that you have to use your left hand. If you quit and come back, you'll have to re-do the entire level, which can be a pain. If you die, you can pick reload last checkpoint, but what happens is you just go back to full health exactly where you were, but with blood splattered all across your screen permanently.

As far as the first level, there's just a lot of going all around and randomly pulling switches to open secret doors. You just have to explore each area. Then these flying bugs come at you and you just have to randomly wave your torch. The glowstick seems superfluous when you have the torch. Using the whip is just a point and click affair, versus actually whipping it. Again, there's just a lack of attention to detail in level design and VR game mechanics.

Of course, it's in Early Access so I guess that's all to be expected.However, it's just not really a good experience currently. I want to support the devs because I want this game developed. I just don't want to continue playing as it's not really fun right now. You do have full locomotion, smooth and snap turning. You can play seated or standing. You have button crouch and jump. I believe the game is using the VRGK (virtual reality gamekit) for the physics, but i'm not 100% sure on that.

Rate 5/10. It feels very much like Early Access.

I believe there is an awesome game here - in development - but it's far from ready for prime time in its current state. I tested the game using Valve Index, RTX 3090, i9 10900K (10 cores/20 threads, 5.3GHz), 32GB ram, Win10 Pro. Game runs in solid 80 fps in 80 Hz using Index res 250% and Epic graphics settings - motion smoothing deactivated.

Btw, devs write "DESIGNED FOR RIFT, RIFT-S", and only mention Quest in brackets. To my great surprise, the game supports native Oculus drivers, so Meta hmd users will get optimal performance. Controls feel better with my Rift CV1 than Index, and the dark tombs profit from the Rift CV1 oled panels. I would not be surprised if devs started making this game 5-6 years ago. My main hmd for testing this game was the Index.

The tutorial is extremely bad. Devs say they have tested it with Index controllers, but I nearly gave up on it and was very close to refunding the game. Using the whip to cross from one platform to another in the tutorial was especially cumbersome, I died many times. Right now you're forced to complete the tutorial to access the levels in the game.

Note that my real height is 184 cm, Rift CV1 measures me in-game to 175 cm, but I'm only 165 cm with the Index. I do feel like having more bended knees with the Index, might explain my issues using the whip to swing between platforms.

Then the intro is nearly worse than the tutorial. You meet your sister and have to fetch a few drinks. Your sister and other women look more or less like cheap porn models - it feels awkward, also combined with the cheesy dialogue. Feels like some conversation made up by young male devs with little experience about creating proper and believable dialogue. Personally I'd simply delete this intro - instead, just make a nice page with some text saying you're about to investigate a tomb, maybe because you've found a hidden map etc etc.

Make the tutorial optional - same for the intro if you really want to keep it. Also the water is way too transparent in the intro, you do not normally see sharks this easily below the water surface.

The first map is identical to the map offered for play/demo testing - graphics are awesome, some of the best I've seen for a long time. Very detailed dynamic shadows, many great textures. Jaw-droppingly awesome scenery - this is where the game starts to shine:

There are checkpoints inside a level, but these will be reset if you close the game. Thus to complete a level you must do it in one run - and levels are very big, might be able to spend hours in one. A high priority is a proper save game system, allowing users to exit a level without having to redo an entire level. Not sure I'll be able to recommend this game before it has a proper save game system.

The game does not feel like properly tested with the Index, even if it does work.
Make the short menu accessible to both hands - I'm left handed and would like to easily put the bow in my right hand.

All in all, I mostly feel like some disabled Indiana Jones - I usually die trying to use the whip as a rope - and trying to use the bow is janky at best. Often trying to grab the bow, I grab nothing or something else, lol. And shooting an arrow - and getting the bow from my left to right hand - are other great challenges to overcome, but it can be done :-)
Adding stuff to my backpack is cumbersome, I often drop items several times - unlike other games, you cannot just drop items on your back to add them automatically.

I was expecting more polish from this game's current state. It needs a lot more time in the oven. I can not recommend this game to common or casual VR users - but only to persons who want to support a VR game which within a year or two may become an awesome Tomb Raider-ish VR experience. My rating 4.5/10 - but I'll update this review as patches arrive.

So far I've experienced no crashes with the game.

The jist of it: The game is still very rough. But worth supporting in my opinion. Just don't expect a finished game that you can just jump into and enjoy (yet).

I played for roughly an hour until I had to take a frustrated break, which worked well since the game crashed. Generally, the idea is fun, the exploring is somewhat satisfying, and the graphics are decent. There are some rough game edges: the animations are rough, the voice acting is good but has a lot of pacing issues with long wait times, the health system is a little weird, the level design is okay but not totally intuitive.... I can live with all of that in an indie game and it can be improved. But the most irritating thing is a lack of polish for a lot of the mechanics. The climbing is unreliable, very comparable to the first launch of Hubris. The tool selection with the left hand works horrible for me (Quest 3 via Virtual Desktop). The fighting against small enemies feels very random and weird, just waving around a torch without seeing anything. Those all *need* to be smoothened out before this game is ready for a wider audience.

So yes, I will give it a recommendation because I like the concept and I can see the idea and work behind it. But it has a huge asterisk on it. If you want to be part of the development process, buy it now in Early Access and report your bugs and wishes. If you are simply looking for something to play frustration-free, wait until it is in full release.

Early Access. VERY Early. The game has potential to be great. The avatar wobbles during climbing like you have bungee arms. There is an awful annoying pop up in your face every time there is a notification of a feature or a control. The voice menu talks about left shoulder and left back pocket when it means your RIGHT shoulder or RIGHT back pocket.
The voice acting is AI based and is kind of flat and uninspired. I would recommend you wait to try this game another day.

I don't think this is like a early access game i do believe that this is the final release of the game they are just working out the wonky and other stuff this game is FUN and the exploration is Great I am having a BLAST and I'm Loving it considering i am in a wheelchair This gets a Holy Guacamole from me 10 Star game Lots of climbing to do in this game

Awesome graphics and gameplay but frustrating that you can't save progress, so if you only have a short time to play, you lose all your progress and have to go right back and even have to go through the non play introduction in the bar area which is boring after third time. Devs please tell me how to save, or put more save points in so I don't waste more of my time and eventually give up on this great game.

This game is good, i had problems with climbing but i seem to have worked out how to do it now. I think there should be more checkpoints as i spent a long time playing and fell in the water and had to start way back t the beginning, hopefully they change this. I have played for a few hours i think its a good game and would recommend but maybe wait for full release.

This game scratches the Tomb Raider VR itch for sure. And isn't that why you are here? It's not perfect, but definitely has some big potential, if the mechanics and maps hold their ground. The graphics are pretty good overall. The voice acting and NPC are all a bit off, but maybe you'll find that charming. It's got some bugs, but for EA, you'd expect that. I'll have to play more to get a better sense of the value. The knockoff and TM infringement has my radar going off. So maybe this will spark Laura Croft to make a real VR game. fun game looks great but only left hand item select cant drop items in backpack without pulling it out cant just drop item in over the shoulder jumping problems where you jump to high or not enough and bounce off anything hit while jumping sound can be missing at times like when shooting arrows also arrows sometimes notch at bottom of bow overall game can be great if they fix the problems at hand I have seen many games like this left for dead lets hope they fix it because this can be a very phenomenal game if fixed
