Think not having one in-game is the developer's choice. To make it harder for new players to learn I suppose.
Guess i'll just die every game :/
However, even if a better way to navigate to and from the ship was provided, it wouldn't help you one bit once you're inside. You are expected to be able to quickly memorize the paths you've taken and be able to figure out how to get back out. Only someone on the ship is able to see part of the layout.

this map guide misses 2 fire exits, one on march and one on rend
the 3 on march correspond to the concrete buckers, I think the one on rend is south off the edge of the map
