It might not actually help though, I can't say. There's a handful of games I've played (Ship of Fools is another) that won't go over 40 FPS regardless of any settings or resolution so it's probably something that needs to be fixed in Proton rather than the game.

It doesn't matter the quality of the game, it should have graphics settings. One of my friends can't play with us because their laptop is 4k and the upscaled resolution makes it crash their game. It's not unreasonable to expect the bare minimum of fullscreen + resolution settings

Just use this mod. It allows you to fine tune settings such as texture quality and the resolution the game is rendered at. I lowered my settings a bit and got a big fps boost.
