Well apparently it's not too much of a problem to make it work with Proton because so many other VR FPS games on Steam do it:

If the dev decides to listen to you and says it's too much of a problem to cooperate with Steam Proton, that's okay with me because as mentioned I have lots of other VR FPS options.

I'll cast a vote for "please make it run on Linux with Proton." Just press the "allow linux support" button on the anticheat and the rest is done for you.
