Yes i have a lot of "cloud sync error" with this game for some reason.
Good thing I was backing them up manually anyway. I'll keep doing it, thanks. The saves are here, if anyone wonders:
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Sandfall\Saved\SaveGames\
I didn't have any sync errors. I just had to reinstall the game. And the cloud said up to date and all that, but it doesn't recognize a save. So essentially the cloud saves are not working at all.
I'm not sure what you are talking about. All my saves are in the cloud and have time stamps. Lots of them. This seems like a connection or setting error. If you started a new game on a new machine it may be that it was overwritten instead.
You can go to the cloud and check for downloads:

I've just reinstalled the game on another drive to fix crash, and everything is fine.
I've been going back and forth between my desktop and my Steam Deck, and the cloud saves work fine.

I have a guide here:

If you are using the cloud to recover and you have the files on the cloud using the link. Download the latest timestamped one and rename it. You can also check your backup folder on the system itself. The game keeps backups locally.

I will give that a shot when I get the chance.

It is showing that I have saves in there, but they are not automatically applying as one would expect.

I'm not sure what you mean by applying. But, if you are using a backup you need to rename the back up file when overwriting the bad main save file. Inside the game it may show up as the old save but when you continue it will load the one you have place in there.

What I am saying is that when I reinstall a game, cloud saves will typically download and I can pick up where I left off. Just by clicking continue, no further actions required from me.

That is not happening with this game.

I haven't tried your guide yet because I am not near that PC currently.
Can't be the case. Both my laptops save and load my saves fine.

Are you Windows or Lunix? The only two things I can think of off hand because I use Lunix myself and the cloud gets wonky sometimes. Is to make sure the cloud is on in the game properties itself. Then go to steam settings and downloads. Clear the cache. You should see a message that it syncs the cloud as a part of clearing the cache.

Linux.
Doesn't work. I just get this error:

Despite the game being fully updated.

I am just going to uninstall and move on to something else.

Should have bought the Epic version, they are cloud-sync'd there.
