Is this good for solo play?
Been wanting to try a new TCG and this popped in my recommended list. How long is this game and is there a post-game content?

Additionally, how is the DLC? Are there notable ones I can purchase to lengthen my play?

As mentioned, I'm not really into online PvP so if the game's CPU is good and the game's long enough I'm willing to try it out.

I'm having a lot of fun with solo play for now. There's a story campaign that faces you against AI opponents in sequence. You can then also fight AI opponents you have unlocked via the story. They come in easy and hard mode as far as I can see, so as I take it easy for farming VP points (that you need to buy new stuff like booster packs or card sleeves) and hard mode for the challenge!

I've played a few hours of campaign now, so I can't say how long it will last, but as I said, I have lots of fun for now!

DLC wise, I got the card season pack thing because it grants new... well, cards ^-^

And I got the 3 character packs, they add 3 new CPU opponents who are quite hard I think, so more to fight! ^-^

If it's worth the money to you is your thing of course, but I find it cheaper than the actual trading card game and I can fight AI, I don't enjoy fighting competitively with other people either...

My reply to thread like this in the past.

But now that I go deeper into the story, I dare say that AI is very cheat in the late part of the game. They got trigger in every crucial moments. So you need to prepare some strong deck
if you don't want to try again by a lot.

I bought this just for solo too. And I'll say it worth it, the story is long enough like 80~100 fights from my estimation and there are many deck to try and if you try em all I can say that it'll last you till next year.

See all deck style here https://steamcommunity.com/app/1881420/discussions/0/3546050190318612020/

As DLCs. You can just grab base game and forget everything for now. (It's mostly cosmetic)

Like he said.
The Card Pass is pre-order of the 4 new card sets that will drop next year. So no need to rush now If you're not sure it's worth your money.

And if you want 3 new AI to fight in Free Mode. You need to buy 3 character packs.

That's all about it. Everything except these is just pure cosmetics.

Also try the demo too if you can.
This game is unique and different from a lot of TCG out there.
It's more casual and laidback game than other TCG.

I used to joke people that this game is choosing player, not player choosing the game. :steammocking:

So try it. And Welcome to CFV!!

Thanks for all the replies! I've been interested in this game for quite some time and have watched a few snippets of the anime online, so I'm definitely going to give it a try despite costing a bit.

Are you able to swap characters or are you stuck with the female protagonist throughout the story parts? If yes, are there other reasons to swap like other skills or pre-made decks that they have? Have seen the character DLCs so was wondering if you can swap charactrs.

As to the cards season pass, how many do you think they may add and would it be worth it? It costs almost as much as the game itself. Hoping there would be additional story bits and extra CPU battles as well.

I'm having a blast fun with DD (I brought on switch). If building deck and see ur deck strive in battle is ur things, it's worth the price. As u will sink in 100+ hrs before u know it. In VG EX (another old VG Japan game in switch), I got 130 hrs play time.
The card pass is 100% worth it. It defines if u have new way of building decks and strategies. That's good it will unlock in year 2023 and not now. So that we can have time to unlock all cards in the base game first before moving on to new cards.

Just tried the demo and while I like the aesthetics, I can't seem to understand the gameplay, mostly because of the English translation.

Is the full game's English better and would the tutorial's explanation make sense?

I checked the English version - it seems the bad English is mostly the tutorial dialog and game... weirdly enough, I guess it was added when the game was almost done, because you don't add tutorial during development usually... and they hadn't access to a proper translator?

Anyway, the rest of the story dialog seems fine. There is a tutorial section that explains all game mechanics with pictures and proper English text - at least I felt it was good English. ^-^

Also, the card info texts seem to be proper!

and one thing I prefer over for example pokemon is that you dont get more resources for free when you get farther in progress (e.g. you defeat an opponent's pokemon you take a price card, while in vanguard when you deal damage, the person who TAKES the damage, gets a trigger check), so in vanguard the damage with trigger checks is more an equalizer.

I just watched the first episode of the anime and made me understnad the gameplay a lot better, tho it was a basic explanation.

I've played a lot of card games in the past (magic, pokemon, digimon, yugioh, shadowverse) and It looked really fun and different. Can you switch protagonists or do you have to play her all throughout the story mode?

What does the postgame look like? Are there like super hard enemies after the final boss?

After you beat her story it’s at least been confirmed that you unlock her brother for story mode play. As for post game I’m guessing it’s just the same game but like you always had the option of changing the difficulty so I don’t think they needed to change much there.

if it's anything like EX the other characters might have a nation lock on deckbuilding, as on EX the others had a Clan Lock.

regarding postgame, no idea but in CPU fight you get difficulty settings per player to unlock. also in free fight you can choose who your character is so you can choose by voice or whatever you you want to talk for you

I keep hearing about the clans and nations. Would you expound on that? Does it affect the way I pock my deck?

For deckbuilding, you're restricted to one clan or nation for your deck. In DearDays' case, Nations. There's 6 different ones. (Technically 10, but those other four aren't relevant)

Dragon Empire
Dark State
Stoicheia
Keter Sanctuary
Brandt Gate
Lyrical Monasterio

When you create a new deck, you'll be asked to pick what nation before you get pulled into the deck build menu.

So if you choose Dragon Empire for example. You are only allowed to choose cards that are under Dragon Empire.

I'm wondering which deck to start with. I like the "Apex Ruler" one, but the Holy Dragon one and Sylvan King look neat as well.

It's alright for solo play, and there's 27 AI you can fight against in free battle when you've finished all the story things (as well as just going through the story again on the different characters and trying out different D-skill & deck combinations and what not), however I think most of the gameplay from this will be the online ranked matches, you can only do so much solo and the AI won't be learning from its mistakes to become more of a challenge later on, the online rank play is very good in this game compared to other games with virtually zero lag from my experience.

and yes the character pack AI will add 3 new free battle challenges, and the additional card pack content will add 4 new packs to pull from which will all extend your gameplay considerably if you enjoy vanguard.
