Does this have the 'relationship" mechanic that Persona has?
Or is it more just raw gameplay? Looking into getting it on sale. Also, do you have a favorite track from the game I can look up on spotify? The trailer music went hard.

SMT games do not have the "slice-of-life" mechanics akin to Persona. You get in there, befriend various demons and deities, and wreak havoc.

So yes, it's all "raw gameplay", as you already said.

I actually prefer that to be honest! Thanks for letting me know. I'll be picking this up soon.

This is probably the best of the SMT games I've played to date, I started with IV on the the DS and played 3 as well. This one is really great though so I think you'll enjoy it. Pokemon for grownups pretty much :)

SMT is definitely more of a traditional JRPG compared to Persona, but imo the more complicated gameplay with the Press Turn system and the focus on the demons, mythology, and symbolism in the story alongside how difficult it can be make it way more of my cup of tea. Enjoy the game, it's fantastic!

This has me sold! I'm finishing up Persona 3 on PS5 then moving on to this!

There is a kind of friendship mechanic with demons. There's a special area that unlocks pretty early that kind of a safe-zone you can go into and see all the demons you have and talk to them. Use them in battle enough or give them gifts and you can get some rewards from them or increase stat boosts.
But yeah Megaten games are all more traditional RPGs. They use a different combat system to persona as well called the Press-turn system. (at least in 3 onwards in mainline and a couple of spin offs, Digital Devil Saga is worth a play). Where you get up to 4 actions per turn based on the number of active party members. If you hit a weakness you only use up half a action, critical hits do the same. but if you miss a attack or have it nullified, absorbed or bounced you loose 2 or 3 actions. The AI is under the same restrictions, so taking advantage of it is the way to go.

No social link , you dont have to think the right decision to raise your friend social stat. you put your brain 100% for fusion and combat

No, there's no such thing as social links here but one of the endings implies/hints a relationship with one of the girls so there's that I guess.
