Buying Death Stranding DC / Want to play without DC
Hi there !
As previously answered here, I know the DC Edition won't replace the normal game but that's for people already owning it.
I don't own Death Stranding at all and i would like to buy it. However ppl told me to play the normal game and not the DC first.
My question is then the following : For first time purchase, does steam add 2 games (normal & DC) as well ?

Thank you kindly :) !

You're likely only going to get the original version via a key reseller site. Do so at your own risks.

You don't need both versions. Just buy the Directors Cut. It's a full game and there is nothing needed from the original. There are also better gear in DC compared to OG. Buy Directors Cut get Directors cut. You don't get both games for just buying the directors cut. You buy one game and get one game.

Here is what i read on reddit :

"As much as I love the new stuff in the DC, I gotta agree with this. The original game feels much more the intended experience while the DC additions are really just a lot of fun stuff. Things that were pruned in development but added back because why not? I have been enjoying them a lot but I do feel playing the DC first would have given me a much different impression of the game as a whole."

So i wanted to play the original experience first, that is all :) !

Ah, reddit. The second page of the Internet. And that's just one person's opinion.

I am not going to say either version is better than the other. What I will say is some of the added stuff is great and could be seen as quality of life and some can be seem as should have been there anyway. Like the addition of a firing range. Absolutely should've been in the game from the get-go. The same with a few other things.

It's just a few missions and some gear that you can choose to use or not use. Some of the stuff can make the game feel easier or "less tedious and less of a chore".

It's just a really late time to pick up the original because I am not sure how many players are still playing it. After all the game is a few years old at this point.

The DC adds stuff that should be there from the start. For example, mules and other enemies have gun emplacements now. You can also do some more fihgting with them, not just punching and kicking them. It's not just the roadster and some added roads. I couldn't go back and play the original, because it would feel like a beta version or something.

You can play the DC just fine and ignore all the added trash. Most of it is literally junk that should have stayed on the drawing board. And that includes third-party software competitions.
I just checked and could not find the OG on any legit reseller so you might be out of luck.

The DC Version is quite different in many regards when you do care about Details. Like the music plays years late when you already finished your journey as one example and it doesnt give the same experience as the original anymore.
If you do enjoy the traveling and the atmosphere it offers, the Directors Cut wont be the way to go.
I also felt like the DC wasnt as good as the original experience ive had, minor details but ... important to me tho.

DC's good, a lot of the new stuff that is impactful is behind ranking up the preppers/distro centers. the added stuff is good, it doesn't detract from the game in any way and is pretty useful. late game added stuff is especially useful, specifically the stabilizer level 3, look out for this item and use it when you can.

You'll be able to get the non-DC version on GamePass very soon:

Non-DC version is obviously far better than this one.
Where else can you drink Monster®© Energy™ in a videogame?

You can play offline and use nothing they give you (talking about PCC) and that's the experience.

Yeah, it is. Totally awesome. Lmao most of the game. I think the cure is to disable steam cloud and then save locally and backup via another method like Dropbox. Dunno, beyond scope of this.
