Octopath Traveler taught me never to buy these games on Switch.
They pretend it's gonna be exclusive to Switch then it comes out on PC anyhow. Why would I buy the inferior version when we know you're going to port it anyhow? Collection of Mana is the only Switch Square Enix title that didn't get ported.

They're more or less: buy on PC if you have to, otherwise buy on Switch.

Well the games are not technical canons.
If you play handled it does not really matter.

i bought this on Switch too (I even bought Switch only to play this game) and I totally regretted it.
Low frame rates, for example when we choose to burn the village as a trap for she-commander, and some crashes.
I'll never buy these on switch again, and will always wait for steam release.
(unless it's a confirmed switch exclusive forever, or for more than 3 years)

but will definitely buy this again here on steam and enjoy it next year after Octopath 2

I never play handheld. Video games are meant to be played on the big boy screen in the privacy of my house.

There's always the scheduling + free time argument to consider also though.

Those of us who bought and finished this already did so earlier in the somewhat quieter part of the release year; October was already absolutely stacked even prior to the Nintendo Direct and these steam reveals - and I don't bemoan the thought of trying to squeeze it in between Soul hackers 2/Persona 5/Diofield Chronicle/Tactics Ogre/Plague Tale/Gotham Knights/Ragnarok (plus a dozen gamepass indies) at the same time.

I may double dip and pick this up again on steam in a future 2023 sale, but I'm content with my existing playthrough for the time being.

I'm over the moon that Octopath Traveler 2 is a day one PC release though, I would have probably done the same thing. :reimpressed:

I play handled at home too. I don’t know why, I hate to play TRPGs on large screens.
But I agree that on a 4k screen it looked a bit bad on Switch

My point is that it is not that a miss compares to demanding 3D games

Plus this was cheaper in my country even at launch and with physical bonuses on Switch. SE has gone mad with pricing on digital

I've learned the same with Monster Hunter Rise and Shin Megami Tensei V. As Capcom offered no save transfer/crossplay for Rise when Rise/Sunbreak launched on Steam, i had the choice to either stay on Switch or to start over on Steam and throw 260h of progress away. In the end it was a good choice to stay on Switch as the Switch version has the healthier playerbase, since i play multiplayer only. About the sh!tshow that was SMTV's performance, i don't even need to talk about..

Tl;dr, if you want the best performance only buy Switch games that are Mario/Kirby/Yoshi/Zelda related, Xenoblade titles and Pokemon. Everything else comes to other platforms sooner or later as exclusivity contracts run out. Lets hope the 60fps Switch successor isn't years away.

Never understood the rush to get through games as they release. If you're not ready to play something, then just wait and pick it up at a deep discount. Those games aren't going anywhere, and there's no advantage to playing them at launch. In fact you're better off waiting a while to guarantee a smoother, patched up experience.

If you have a Deck then buying on Steam automatically gives you the home version and a portable version. :brotherfist:

Well, you can buy a physical copy and it's like buying a gold bar, it will at least retain value, unlike a digital copy. You can play and then sell it. Also, graphics doesn't matter as much for these japanese games...I played Diofield demo on PC and it looks like a ps2 game with "effects".

PS: I don't even have a Switch 'cause I can't read ♥♥♥♥ on that tiny screen.

Wha? The Switch screen is enormous, it's the same impractical size as the Steam Deck :-\

You know the Switch can be docked though. Infact half the time I forget that it's a portable system because it never leaves my TV.. :spazdunno:

But yeah there is some merit to just getting games we don't intend to replay on console to resell. It's what my plan is for Crisis Core: Reunion on PS5. Doubt I'd revisit that one multiple times but I would like to play it atleast once.

After playing the demo for Diofield both on PS5 and steam, I'll take the M+K controls and 144fps here myself.

Didn't say anything about graphics. The Switch has performance issues with a lot of games because it was outdated tech the day it released. I played through Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 and it has so much slowdown in bigger fights it's a joke. It's a Nintendo published game and it has performance issues on their own hardware.

Plus there are all the other features that are just part of the package when you have a game on Steam as opposed to the company that still doesn't understand the internet.

I also don't expect physical Switch games to be of any use when the next system comes out. They won't even let us play our NES and SNES ROMS from the previous consoles without paying a subscription to access things we already bought.

Good points, I just gave you a valid reason on why to buy on switch. The digital copy on steam costs 1/4 of minimun wage where I live, if I had a Switch I could buy a cartridge, play it then sell it asap
