Source Filmmaker

Umm... how do you use the Left 4 dead maps?
I wanted to use one of the L4D maps in Source Film Maker but where do I get and use the map. I clicked upload map and went to L4D and there was no maps at all.

L4D maps are some of the most frustrating things on here. Even though both games are on the Source engine, and the fact that there's even a L4D DLC pack, the maps don't work too well in SFM.

However, not all hope is lost. There's some people out there who managed to get the maps working in SFM. You can find most of No Mercy, as well as bits of the other maps. Which map(s) are you looking for?
Dark carnival, I just wish valve would update the software so it would be 10 times easier.

Like I'm new to the software it self but even when it comes to making stuff for TF2 they're using the 2007 version of the game.

No kidding. I tried looking for it, but I couldn't find anything. I guess you could try copying the .BSP to here, but you'll probably encounter some errors. If you get the warning for HDR lighting, there's a guide on how to fix that.

Source Filmmaker is actually based on a mid-2008 version of Team Fortress 2. (Why? Because that's (probably?) when it was branched off from Team Fortress 2, and so branching off from a newer version of Team Fortress 2 would, more or less, basic entitle a rewrite or re-implementation of Source Filmmaker's features, for very little benefit.) Not a 2007 version of it.

And, either way, I don't see how using a newer version of Team Fortress 2 as a base for Source Filmmaker would make Source Filmmaker itself easier to use...?

Left 4 Dead 1 maps, as far as I recall, mostly work fine in SFM, they just need to be extracted from the game:
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=126371116

A lot of "fixed" content can be found for L4D2 here: https://steamcommunity.com/groups/OpenSourceFilmmaker/discussions/2/864947149153770006/

However, you need to disregard the original instructions about load order, which are badly out-of-date and don't account for the existence of the official SFM DLC pack.

The L4D2 content now needs to be in this order in your search paths:

left4dead_movies
left4dead2_dlc2
left4dead2_dlc1
left4dead2
l4d2_fixes
l4d2_extract (Or whatever you call this folder. This will be anything you actually directly extract from the game via the guide above. Do NOT put anything you extract that way into any folder except one specifically for extracted content, or you'll overwrite content that was specifically fixed for SFM).

You can also find a few more of the missing L4D2 maps here: http://sfmlab.com/item/417/
I would put these into the l4d2_fixes folder, as they fall under that sort of general category and putting them here shouldn't cause any issues.

You know who's awesome? You are, and everyone who compiled that stuff together. :health:
