If I get hit once, I count the fight as a fail.
Though this works better with Arkham games, since it's very rarely the game's fault if I get hit in those. While in Spider-man, there's a lot of jank and BS.
It becomes an incredibly hard game and basically makes it so that you suddenly have to stop everything you were going to do that day, learn everything you have at your disposal, practice it for hours, and then perhaps get 1 or 2 main story missions in. Now the idea repeats because everything in game has leveled up against you so you have to go and learn these new things you unlocked and master them... I mean who wants to do that if you say have a life outside of gaming?
I say, the biggest problem with this game is there isn't a training or free-roam mode so to speak, where you can take your time learning and having fun... without the pressure that's always on you to GET TO THE STORY POINT, NOW!!!!! DO THIS FIGHT, NOW!!!! OH YOU'RE PASSING A CAR FULL OF CRIMINALS, STOP THEM NOW!!! like, really? The game seriously needs to either throw in some sort of training mode, or tone down the overall difficulty of the game on easier modes.... like WAY down. Not everyone is a spider-man know-it-all that also has a P.H.D. in Fighting Games. ;)... Not everyone is able to go down on something like Devil May Cry 3 or whatever 3rd game it was...
1. Damage should be lessened. I shouldn't have to play as a healer or face unexpected death. Difficulty should test skill and creativity, not luck. Any attack that deals major damage should be predictable, and it should be my fault if I die.
2. Checkpoints should be less frequent. If I die, I shouldn't just go back five seconds. At least on higher difficulties I should have to try harder and master a section to beat it.
3. Gadgets should share an energy pool. There's just way too much stuff that spidey can use at once. If he uses it all, a short fight is way too easy. The existing system never feels balanced for the encounters.
There's lot of kids loving to play this game might be the reason why they don't want to make it too hard
The second game, Miles Morales, actually handles the difficulty a lot better. Most of the bosses took me multiple tries to clear, and the health limiter that prevents death is gone. There's no longer a focus generator ability so you can use other abilities effectively. The games' mechanics just work better for higher difficulties. Base objectives don't take as long, so they can make enemies harder without unbalancing them. And the number of crimes is no longer super repetitive and annoying to 100%. Miles Morales is a much harder and much more fun experience. Hopefully they will carry that over to future games.
