Lack of stuff to do in the open world does suck though but at least it's better than Arkham Knight were the only life on the streets was bad guys + cops.
I wasn't clear on what I meant by that, the gadgets are great and fun and I love using them, they're the main thing I use in combat now until they run out, but you could quite literally play from 0-100% without ever using them, excluding the tutorials and challenges that require them of course.
I wouldn't really blame it on the burn out tbh, I've had this opinion since the release of the game on ps4, and not a big revelation I've had recently. I'm only sharing it now in hopes that the sequel improves/d on it.
Combva is ♥♥♥♥ yes, but story is ♥♥♥♥, charatcers are ♥♥♥♥ (not al of them but some like mj, mister negative ...), the narrative is ♥♥♥♥, the pacing is ♥♥♥♥, the camera is ♥♥♥♥, the sub quests are ♥♥♥♥, the ending (bosses with electro/old flying fart, scorpio "I'll copy paste batman" dream ..) is ♥♥♥♥, the levelling is ♥♥♥♥ ...
Damn, I'm near the end and I can stand this ♥♥♥♥ anymore: the thing is a catastrophe, saying that it is a good game is a plain lie ! It's factually a mess; a broken piece of amateurish and incompetent ♥♥♥♥. (>_<)
Personally I'm playing on the hardest difficulty and needless to say I most definitely cant just mash the attack button... constantly using most of the available gadgets , mixed with constantly switching position while using every different skill based attack both in air and on the ground is the only way I can survive. I've never had the 'repetitive combat' issue as I find I have to use a rapidly changing combination of virtually everything the game offers in order to win a big fight.
I love the combat in this game as it feels cinematic and fluid and achieves what it intends to, but gameplay vise Web Of Shadows for me is still miles ahead which fully utilized both horizontal and vertical aspects of it and a whole different playstyle with suit changes mid combat.
What do you mean... only mashing a button?
I hit a few guys (x), some brute comes up from behind and I quickly dodge (b). Then I jump into the air (a) focus on an armed enemy and webgrab his weapon (y) only to fling it at other enemies. Just before I dodge another attack (b).
Then it's time to check for debris and use that (l1 + r1), then I'll try to get a shield guy through combat (x, x to hit 'm, b to doge at the right time and then more x to attack). Or... I hold x, punch the guy in the air and go right at him (a and x). While in the air you can even focus on other enemies and pull those up as well using y (assuming you unlocked those abilities of course).
If you only mash the attack button you're going to get stomped on eventually, especially when the enemies manage to stun you.
I came into this game (PC) with the knowledge that web blossom was busted, I used it a couple of times just to see if it held up to what it used to be, and yeah its still busted lmao.
When I said mashing a button, I was exaggerating my point to say that the combat is very bare-boned and basic, almost every enemy type can be beaten with a perfect dodge and then punched to death, I'm not kidding, give that a try.
Everything else you mentioned is a choice you made and not something the game forced you to do, nor does it encourage you.
Sometime down the line I'll replay the game with just perfect dodge and punch just to further prove my point on how basic the combat system is.
There are many games you can technically beat without engaging in 99% of the mechanics. That doesn't mean they're simple, it means people found a way to beat them that ignores 99% of the mechanics. Those people, coincidentally, are intentionally trying to beat those games in a way most people would never think to do, because it makes the games more difficult just to make them difficult (i.e.: challenge runs).
