But... you're supposed to like her because she's strong and independent. Never you mind that she's hyper-abusive, comes across as psychotic, and has such stunning plot armor that she can jump 30 feet out of a plane while shooting pistols, land poorly on her knees, and be fine even though she's NOT A METAHUMAN. Whatevers, right?
I'd love to see the genders reversed and see how acceptable they'd find it. :-P "Hey, okay... so Cable just smacked Spider-Gwen right across her face and spit on her unprovoked, again... but he's a strong, independent dude! She just hasn't earned his trust, yet. Really, it's her fault that happened."
I don't think that would make it very far at Insomniac. But, it was 2018 and they drank deep from the era's zeitgeist well.
Edit addition: also, what a great way to introduce a character. She attacks you for... stopping her men from executing an unarmed prisoner. Her only facial expression is a "I want to talk your manager!?!" sneer and she treats her guns like they have zero recoil, which, coupled with the dinky sound effects, make them look like worthless pea shooters.
But you are clearly meant to like her. She's a strong woman! Can't you tell? Just like Mary Jane (who openly belittles and chastises you whenever the opportunity arises) and Yuri (who treats you like dirt and expresses open exasperation with your mere existence). And really, it's Peter's fault. He needs to "swallow that Parker pride," as the game says OVER AND OVER. Never you mind that he never shows hubris throughout the whole game; he just shows concern and worry that people might die.
Oh, 2018. Oi. Thank God the DLCs course-corrected with Black Cat, no MJ, and a Silver Sable who finally found her meds.
I don't care how it's explained, that's a very steep nosedive in writing right at this moment.
Thankfully the important parts of the game's writing are pretty stellar.
Yep, and then Peter gets to worshiping in the DLCs, calling her a hero and downplaying all her atrocities in the base game and all her abuse as just her being, you know, really passionate about her job or something. In essence, "she's a Symkarian warrior who has been fighting for years. She can't help behaving that way... so it's all good."
I'm fine with turning heels into faces (weird wrestling jargon), but yeah... you're right. It was unearned and out of left field. But, I'd rather have Silver Sable on meds than "you made me hit you" base game Silver Sable.
Edit addition: haha, this thread is reminding me how grateful I was for Black Cat. Best female presence in this Peter's life outside of Aunt May. Felt nice to finally meet a gal who didn't rub his face in dirt.
Comics are comics, they never made sense.
this pretty much sums up sables character. mary jane basically confirmed it when she said these EXACT WORDS, "a bunch of old school maggia thugs feel threatened by a confident, powerful woman"
granted. but still would hvae like to kick her overconfident A**
I remember playing the DLC i just waited on the flying thing until the timer was out because the figh is under a timer. Women empowerment ♥♥♥♥ is all over this game and I hate MJ part of the game.
buddy you aint the only one who hates mary jane parts.
also taskmaster is in this game and that dude goes toe to toe with superhumans as well so it isnt beyond realm of possibility that someone to get the better of spiderman if spider man doesnt pay attention or thinks he is beyonfd the person he is fighting he can make mistakes
Eh, at least Batman has his cloak. It's basically a parachute when he extends it out (Batman: Begins goes into that with the whole "stiffens upon electrical signal" thing). I find it easier to suspend disbelief there because of that. "Oh, I just dropped off the building... and ten feet before impact, the cloak opens up and Batman wafts to the ground. Fine."
She just JUMPS right out of her helicopter (or plane, or whatever. It's a flying thing :-P ), twirls in the air needlessly, and plops on the ground. At least give me some "super-soldier serum" rubbish to excuse it, game. :-P
now this i disagree with partly.
yes if task master was to face off against spiderman (not in game) id bet on task master almost everytime. but his character makes sense. from the moment we run into him (in game) he is analyzing spider man, how he fights, how he responds to situations, his speed, endurance, ect. he was literally copying spider man so it would make sense if he laid out spider man like a bear rug. he knows almost everything about him.
my issue is i cant fight sable, and she does what task master in game couldn't do, does it 3 different times just cause she can, and we are forced to watch it lol.
refrain from projecting please.
In Ultimate Spider-Man video game, Silver Sable was actually capable of going toe to tie against Peter (even though you can argue it was because he was tranquilized and thus was less effective), but it is just as arguable fighting spider man isn't really a pure strength thing.
You see, Captain America did fought Spider-Man to my knowledge several times in the comics, and he did managed to win not because of his strength, but because of his tactics. He knows the weakness he has from having seen him, and I don't think it is out of the question so did Silver Sable could figure it out, especially since she was most likely watching how Spider-Man fights.
There also comes in other examples like Spider-Man fighting Felicia in Spectacular Spider-Man. He was actually getting fairly kicked around because Felicia fights like a gymnast and is really agile, something Spider-Man isn't accustomed to as he either fights bigger enemies, or normal sized enemies that aren't really acrobatic.
