No, it's just janky like that.
The core combat mechanics are really great but the AI doesn't work all that well, so you'll often take damage that is entirely the game's fault and not yours.
I got three small examples here but it gets much worse with Demons and then even worse with Sable agents:

Of course, there's gonna be around these forums as usual fanboys and people who are completely blind and don't notice EXTREMELY obvious stuff like that who will tell you it's not the game but you who's doing something wrong.
Fact of the matter is, Insomniac themselves is probably very aware of this, otherwise why would they not have an option to remove the Spider-sense?
Because it would make the problem even much more visible, that's why.
Like, if you try to dodge when you see the attack animation coming instead of the spider sense effect, the enemy's gonna pull a ridiculous 360 and punch you in the face anyway.
So even if you perform a Perfect Dodge, a stray bullet can still hit you and drop your combo. I've experienced plenty of instances where even bullets shot from friendly cops would hit me and drop my combo. There's nothing you can do about it to avoid it.
And yes, I also noticed that Spidey Sense sometimes does not show when an attack or projectile is incoming.
It doesn't really bother me, though hopefully the sequel will improve the combat so these things don't happen.
You're spiderman and you're literally walking about wondering why you're getting hit. The 2nd two are just random bugs.
You can't get hit by friendly fire and perfect dodge adds invincibility frames.
Always seemed fair to me. Reason I have all those crowd control tools and aerial mobility.
Yea... learn to Long Dodge.. It gives you space to plan your next move and gets you out of AOE damage..
MSM doesn't do that. It wants you to also input a left stick direction and if that direction is wrong (i.e. you dodge one attack, but dodge into the range of another attack) then you still get hit.
Also watch the color of the spidey sense. at the end of the overhead sprite for it, it will turn blue for a split second (once you unlock perfect dodge early on). That's when you want to actually press dodge. It not only will stun the mob you're dodging with a web shot to the face, but slow time and add invulnerability frames to the dodge so you can't dodge into another attack. If you are just doing normal dodges, there are no i-frames and the game is sort of punishing you for having early/bad timing.
Never played the game before and am playing on Spectacular. You pretty much have to be precise with the timing. Too early or late on the dodge and you get hit.
Also another mechanic I found a gripe with is that when you are in the middle of throwing an object with your web you cannot cancel out of it to throw a grenade that lands next to you or dodge incoming bullets. If there is a way to do this, I would love to know how.
arkham games you could coast by too easily with the counter/dodge here you have to be careful while dodging, its not an instant win button
