If you fill the standard six accessory slots you can go to the far right of the level for the Stone Mask and the far left of the level for the Empty Tome. You cannot duplicate the Stone Mask or Empty Tome mind you but does free up accessory slots.

I've never seen the Stone Mask going left or the Empty Tome going right. In near 100% of my runs on Library I've found the Stone Mask. I'm only not saying 100% because I did runs before I knew about it.

You can message me anytime and I will stream it for you from beginning to end 3 times in a row and it will always be Stone Mask to the right.

This isn't a "trick," it's literally how you're supposed to find those items, unless you're saying if you already have 6 items you can add a 7th or 8th, which is a bug moreso than anything else.

You can find zero to four Empty Tomes by walking to the left.

Yes, that's exactly what OP is saying. You have to fill all six augment slots with other items first, then you can get the stone mask and empty tome for a total of eight augments.

I also tried upgrading the tome to level 5 and then picking up the free one. It said "level 6", but my cooldown did not go any lower.

It does matter which direction and you always get the same things. Always left tome, right mask.
