Soul Hackers 2

Very Bad Game.
Don't make another one.
Absolute chore to play even with the dlc that gives you 1 level per kill.

It's pretty telling how Soul Hackers 2 already has a "mixed" review score on the Store page, given how lenient when it comes to scores the average Steam user is.

Well it depends on what you expect. I just wanted a game to get back into this style of game before Persona 5 releases on Steam and it worked well for me. I have 80 hours on hard and it was a good challenge. The story is slow paced and I don't like that they reused so many assets, but I like the small side quest stories and when the main story picks up it's interesting - especially at the end. Ringo is a great character and really saved the game for me and made me keep going.

Played Persona 5 on PS4 It never felt like a chore even after 100+ hours. Souls Hackers 2 is definitely a step down.

Bad level design and constant enemy popups in front of you ruined the game. They doubled down on the chore aspect by making finding demon's rng based instead of fight and hire.

I liked the game in general, haven't finished it yet, im taking my time, almost 90 hours on it
The story is good, i liked the characters and their back stories in the Soul Matrix, specially Saizo, Saizo you are an "NyE" as we say in spanish.
Gameplay is good too, rewarding you for exploiting weak points as usual in megaten games but i didn't liked the fact that the enemys can't take advantage of a similar combo mechanic but they still hit like a truck (on hard at least).
I liked how the enemies pop up randomly and try to ambush you like demons in SMT IV/IV:A to make the dungeon crawling a little bit more challenging
Dungeons are obviusly meh and probably the weakest point of the game, except for the first and the last one, specially the last one, that thing screams "here's all the budget my dudes"
The game being straight corridors with combat probably didn't ruined my experience because i play megaten and thats the most usual thing in the franchise so i can't say if that part is a good or bad decision for the game (except for the dungeons designs as i mentioned before)
Also the conversations they have during the social events are fun and curious, you can learn more about the characters and from the world setting itself a little bit more so i liked that too.
And we can't forget Ringo herself, i liked a lot how they managed to make her as curious as a little child but at the same time someone smart without making me die from cringe. (Take the L, R.S.)
The lost numbers DLC is ok, not worth it.
I miss demon negotiation tho.
Recomended.

I actually like the lost numbers DLC.

Spoiler:
I think it's actually worth it. There are multiple quests with cutscenes, all fully voiced (which isn't the case with other side quests) and I especially like that she is an active support character during fights in certain areas. I actually feel like they should have added that mechanic to the whole game. Like many support characters that could join you during fights, after completing their quests.

it's got one of my favourites stories and casts in jrpgs in general, but the gameplay is definitely a step back to previous megaten games in tons of aspects, it's really sad

I mean... they don't leave a lot of room to 'score' things. You either rate it thumbs up or thumbs down. If you want to be critical of anything, you're stuck either spinning everything positive or negative.

And that's how it should be.
You either recommend a game or you don't; as simple as that.

Not simple as that. My users appreciate port analysis.

But to your point, I will just assign any game that uses Steam Input a thumbs-down regardless whether the game plays well or not. It's the only option Valve allows.

Bad game, I don't know, but right now I'm at the subway line 14, and I would like to talk to the guy who had the idea to design such a boring, annoying, frustrating level.
I mean, what the ♥♥♥♥ ?

Phase one of final boss is harder than phase 2 wtf. Had a bad rng comp and struggled since i can't kill the adds without hitting weaknesses they resist everything other than a specified weakness.

that's generally why you keep around elemental breaks on all your int characters

My demon has 1-2 element skill and 1 Physical or Almighty and buff/debuff for 3 skills. I don't use any element break for an entire game not for once when they resist all element I'll keep one demon that has pierce physical all the times.
