OHKO by a statue at the end of Hardcore??
Was doing a hardcore run, just before the final boss with 1500 HP (full HP + extra with sigil) and 1-up (anti KO) sigil equipped, looked away for a second and ran into one of these statues that drain you. It killed me in literally less than half a second and that includes draining the 1-up sigil too... wth is this damage output??

Welcome to the club. Also got killed yesterday bye that purple light trap under a statue on hardcore.
Full life gone, anti KO sigil triggered and died. Its a cruel joke of the developer. Its a trap that wont vanish when hit by. Also has no delay on dealing damage, so if you wont react instantly or sadly jump into it you will die. Also the room where on top a Lily is. So if you jump down and land on it RIP run.

Edit:
It wouldnt be so infuriating if they introduced that trap like the other to warn/remind the player.
Red and brown damage cloud has skulls showing and is easy visible.
An assasin demon runs right into a landmine and dies infront of you.
Spike trap is in a path you will run straight anyway and has a click sound.
Explosive barrels will barely hurt you if you attack them yourself.

But the purple light trap is barely visible and blends into the background. Looks like a light to show the statue. No skulls, no enemy testing the waters for you or any visible signs of danger...

Your entire post sums it up perfectly. The aspect you mentioned that maybe bothers me the most about it is how much it blends in while at the same time being the deadliest thing in the game.
I honestly don't think there was any ill intent by the devs but the end result isn't any less frustrating.
Oh well, lesson learned I guess.

edit: as a side note according to someone i know, it seems sprinting into it will instakill you as opposed to normally walking into it. so maybe they just messed up the way it interacts with you in case of a sprint

yep, rule of thumb when i did that zone in hardcore is always have the damage shield up from the aegis sigil so you don't get randomly 1 shot by a trap or something. I still lost my entire run on the final boss for sliding off the edge of phase 1 because of lunar form, but then beat it on my next attempt by just not using that ability.

You take more damage while sprinting and it says so in the tooltip so it's intended. That said I tested couple enemy damage with my maxed characters.

Normal statue: running = 300hp, sprinting = death even at max (1500) and extended (1875)
Hardcore statue: running = 360hp, sprinting = not testing but assume it's also death

Tried a couple other late game enemy damage numbers and it seems running adds ~75hp of damage in normal and ~125hp in hardcore on top whatever the base damage would be.

Conclusion: You're intended to take more damage when sprinting but not a crazy increase. The statue seems to do multiple hits of damage with no i-frames between hits leading to instant death. I was able to perfect dodge the initial sprint damage to avoid it all but once any damage goes through it's a death. If it's not intended to be a one shot death (which would be weird) then it's damage increase from running into it while sprinting is indeed bugged.

This should be addressed in the latest update. If you were on a previous HC run and would like to recover your save, you may be able to find backup save files in your save data directory (see Bug Reports for its whereabouts) and continue from there by renaming and removing the numbers at the end of the save file. Hope it helps and sorry for the inconvenience.

Just confirming it's indeed no longer one shotting you. Both my normal and hardcore character survived running and sprinting into the statue.

I see a lot of save1 and save2 but not save3 where my hard core save was supposed to be. what is the name of the save backup if its on save slot 3?

The save files use zero-based numbering, so save2.sav would be the save file for save slot 3.

After some trial and error i could recover it. Thanks so much

I really wish it was done like the previous game where there's an achievement for no death, but if you just simply wan't to play a higher difficulty after beating the base game then Insane exists.
