Same problem:harveyangry:
I can open the door after receiving the plasma cutter, but I can't go through it. Five minutes of fun...
Same. Just bought the game, set it up, and crash right after the initial load screen....
You should install the d3d9.dll file. Look up DXVK on the internet, there's an archive on GitHub that contains everything you need.

On the project's GitHub page, there's an Assets section where you'll find the main archive dxvk-2.7.1.tar.gz. Inside this archive, look for the 32-bit d3d9.dll file. Simply place it in the game's root folder (where Dead Space.exe is located).

Enjoy your game!

Have you tried the dll, though?
I had the game installed on my disk for a few years already, until yesterday i decided to play it again. Well, I couldn't because of the same reason as you.
