Stuck on the meteor gun in Chapter 4
I've been trying for 45 minutes to past this part. I've tried it with both mouse and my 360 controller, failing time and time again. There's also no way to turn down the difficulty (I think I'm playing it on hard, maybe normal, but definitely not easy). Anyone have any tips or advice on how to pass this part?

Also, on a side note, why didn't Hammond think to look at this problem BEFORE he decided to lower the ship through an asteriod field?

This part was hard and annoying. You just have to aim very fast and precisly.

I think I might possibly be the only person in the world who didn't have any trouble at all with this part in any of my three playthroughs..

Just focus on the big chunks, not every single little spec of debris.

I was watching a Let's Play of this part. The guy had just as much trouble as I did. He had to turn the mouse sensitivity to maxium in order to pass it, so I'm going to try that whenever I get around to playing this game again. I'll also remember to focus on the bigger asteroids and alternating firing the cannons as you guys advised. Thanks for the help guys!

The cannon part is the most random event the game will throw at you. On consoles, there is an achievment to pass this part with 50% or more shield damage. It's absolutely random. I believe on my impossible run, I got the achievment with ease. But on other difficulties, it seemed to get outwright impossible.
On PC, there seemed to be some problem with the overall control (game was made for console.) But nothing to major.

Anyway, you seem to have a game-plan going on, so good luck. And remember, the asteroids are randomly generated. There is no pattern whatsoever.

I've gotten a lot closer, but still haven't gotten it. The first time I tried it again, I FREAKING HAD IT! Hammond gave the final warning, I had one meteor left, and my guns overheated, letting the meteor kill me with 2 hit points left! I even brought my friend over since he's beaten this game, but neither one of us could get it. This is the only part he had trouble on too. I'm going to take a break for a week or so before trying it again.

If I can't get it then, well I'm just going to concluded that the Isimurah was destroyed by asteriods, and Isaac, Hammond, Kendra, and all the necromorphs died. END OF STORY!

one major thing you have to look at is when multiple meteors are coming you need to make an efficient line when taking them out so you can start at one point and end at another while holding a click. When you are holding it down you should only be holding it down 3-5 secs max. First time doing it again in a year or so and did it in one try with 100% shield.

There will be a tougher turret section later.

I know this is an old thread...but yea. I am stuck here as well....It is orders of magnitude more difficult than the rest of the game, which is not especially hard. This section of the game also has nothing to do with the rest of the gameplay.
With the built in jagged controls on Dead Space 1, I find it impossible - and not fun.
Am not going to be able to actually get past this section, I haven't been able to get more than about 20-30 seconds through it.
And since someone is saying there is another turret section, ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. I am returning this. The rest of the game is very cool, but without a way to opt out of this section (like a cheat or something) the game isn't worth the time. It's supposed to be a fun thing to do, not something frustrating or TOO difficult.
There should have been a built in way to skip it....bad game design.
I am clearly not the only one who hated this. And I am not likely to buy DS2 considering my experience with this one....
I was just looking for a cool game...but now I'm stuck at this section and cannot progress. Everything else about the game up until that point was pretty cool and simple. The asteroids are impossible for me.
Thanks EA.

Are you using mouse or gamepad controls?

Hey! OP here! I forgot made this way back in 2013. While I like to play games on hard (because I'm hard-core and that's how I roll!), I'd honestly recommend playing Dead Space on easy difficulty just to beat this section. Neither I, nor my friend, were able to beat this after about 3 hours of trying.

I'm with you Erica. They should have built in a way to skip this section.

What controls are you guys using?

I used both an xbox controller, and a mouse. I seemed to do a lot better with the mouse since it's what I normally use, and what I had progressed through the game with.

My friend, on the other hand, mainly used the xbox controller when he came over to attempt to help me out.

ya this part was a pain in the ass but i eventually got passed it...you just have to continue trying and eventually you will get past it.....as others have stated try to get the bigger asteroids for sure because those are the ones that really do damage.
ericadolphy Jul 28, 2016 @ 12:15pm
Yea, so got past it. My tip = turn the sound off. That made a big difference for me.
still, it took many tries over at a friend's place.....
(PS - I use a gamepad, but switched to a mouse to get past this section).

Back to cool space-zombie game. I actually like the weird jagged controls throughout the rest of the game, very cool and theatrical, but with that turret was too difficult to still be fun.
haha, I wonder how bad it is on Hard mode (I'm playing through on Medium) ?
