Stuck in the asteroid room DS1

Please help. I'm stuck in the asteroid room, coz I can't affect the toothed rings with my stasis at max and Isaac takes sooo long to plant the signal device, that even jumping just as a ring passes, doesn't give me enough time! I'm guessing I have to stop or slow those rings, but I'm darned if I can see how!

You don't have to place it on the side of the astroid where the half-rings pass.

You have to walk to the outside where the rings dont even pass, and place it there.

Ah, thanx Space Cadet. Ya know, I thought they were half rings but stupidly decided it was just lazy devs not bothering to put in the work on the other side of the wall! Duh :)

Yeah it's a weird contraption.

Thanx Space Cadet, got thru it fine thanx to your advice. Now I'm experiencing some of the glitches/bugs that people post about. Most of them seem fairly minor but right now I've got a more serious problem. I'm doing the bit where I retrieve the artifact, which I've managed to do on one occassion, but the game keeps going to a blue screen and the only way forward is to turn my PC off and restart, so of course I lose my progress! Not sure if it's a game crash, or maybe some problem with my PC. When I've had crashes/freezes in other games, I've never had just a blue screen so that makes me wonder about my PC. Hey ho, the joys of gameing eh? :)

Check game cache (library, right click the game, properties, the tab "local files", "verify integrity f game cache"). If that doesn't work, dunno, reinstall? I finished the game 3 times since i bought it last November and didn't have a single crash (was i just lucky?). Iwould recommend playing with a 360 controller to solve mouse lags.

Thanx EMFC, but my copy of DS1 is on Origin so I don't have that option. I'm thinking now that it was a game glitch coz now I'm on the 2nd time round with the extras (military suit etc) and I'm fair ripping through it! Level 3 already and not a blue screen so far! Tempting fate perhaps, but fingers crossed. :)
ps I must be lucky coz I don't get any mouse lag, in fact I've got the mouse sensitivity less than half the bar! I do get a kinda lag when I get grabbed by those long arm type things with the yellow joint you have to shoot, and the stasis doesn't work on them! Still, I've only been killed by them a couple of times, so I'm managing.
