Dead Space (2008)

Would you consider the series "Demonic"?
I've heard quite a bit of people going around saying the game is "Demonic" and "Satanic" and I wanted to know what the community thought.

Thought so.
not really, as there's no pentagrams found throughout any of the games. the game's tone might seem demonic, due to the religious-esqe tone

Pentagrams are not demonic/satanic symbols anyway :angryofficer:

I had always thought they were when I first started playing the original "Doom"

i see how people could come to this thought as if you look at it from the outside there is alien languages hostile twisted monsters and a "shrine" that is causing all of this however in depth there is NO basis to this idea so i completly disagree with this however i can see how the uninformed person might come to this conclusion

but at the same time, Unitology (like the actual Scientology) is indeed a cult, and since they worship their twisted versions of God, it does have some similarities to satanic worshipping

Even if it was Demonic... you go around KILLING the bad things.

You know, I never understood the whole christian "anti-demons in games!" bent. In 99% of games that feature any type of demonic being, the player is actively fighting AGAINST said demons, attempting to rid the world of the blight demon's have cast.

In the case of Dead Space, no, they're not demons, they are aliens ALA "John Carpenters: The Thing" The Necromorphs certernly can evoke a demonic feel to them in their disjointed apperances, and dessecration of dead body's, but it's simply an Alien orginisim.

But if the reasoning behind your questioning is religious to begin with OP... give Dead Space a skip, after all, Aliens cannot be saved, Christianity has said as much. *rolls eyes as the idiocy of religion.*

Its because it humanizes demons when demons are more of a force that will enter the body and control it. We can't kill them but we can force them out.
Second, you can take your religious hatred somewhere else. I will NOT stand for it.
Third, I own the game now, yes I know they're not demons nor are there demonic aspects of the game.
I don't care if you don't like religion. Don't talk to someone who is religious about how much YOU hate religion for no reason. Because you really don't have any reasons.

I think he was just trying to say the Church has some rather anachronistic approaches to various matters, generally... he wasn't hating on religion itself.

Not at all. Don't mind it and just play and enjoy the game.

Do Sci-fi games have "Demons" really? Isn't the whole Idea of a hellish being nothing more than an alien race ( Ala "Non-human") so in that respect, it isn't. It features a made up religion based upon a real life religion and the people that worship a prophet of that relgion. Everything else can be explained away via scientific method or natural law.

Meh, nothing really bad about it I guess. Relgion will never be in a good light, no matter what people follow, when discussed on the net. Sadly you can't discuss an archaic belief on one of mankinds most technologically advanced fronts for comunication.
