How to Force VSYNC with AMD GPU?
Hi there :)
I use a system with an AMD 680M iGPU.
Both DS1 and DS2 are working fine, but i can't force vsync - the setting in the adrenalin driver does nothing for both games.
I can limit max FPS to 60, but the the tearing is just more obvious and flicker effects, or just rotating the camera looks aweful.

I tried borderles gaming, but that also failed.

This is no problem at all with any NVIDIA GPU, but how do i do it with AMD?

I found that on mine, if I set Radeon Chill for limiting framerates to a tighter number like 60-62 it causes more tearing, but if wider setting like 60-80 the tearing stopped. I'd tweak around with that to try and fix it. Also, enhanced sync wouldn't actually take until I turned it on, and restarted the whole pc, started the game and then opened Radeon settings again while the game was running. Something about DS2 would just break everything and settings didn't want to apply themselves until after a restart and some alt+tabbing. On DS1 it worked better. They're both just wonky but I did end up getting it to work without installing any mods or 3rd party software.

RadeonPro?

I think Dxvk might have some AA settings that could help if nothin else works

Didn't know dxvk could be used in Windows, handy to know.

It isn't. dxvk is Linux - not usable for me :(

Dxvk isn't Linux exclusive, it can be used in Windows, it's not supported though.

It does run I used it to try and get DX11 SOTTR to use more CPU cores to quit it stuttering but it didn't help. It didn't have any tearing though. It's screwed up DX11 runs fine w/o mods but with mods it's busted. Am running win10 btw.

If you don't wanna use that there's SpecialK that does some things.

But I'm pretty sure it'll quit tearing if you fudge Radeon settings around without using any that stuff. I just kept messing with it till it ran right.

yeah ok. i found this about windows and dxvk;
https://github.com/doitsujin/dxvk/wiki/Windows

I just tried SpecialK. It can solve my multimonitor issues with Grounded, but it just can't fix the vsync issues with Dead Space :/

Everytime i do a screenshot the tearing bars are showing a solid color xD
But...vsync really isn't active ingame :/
It really seems that only NVIDIA is able to do this...that sucks!

Does the tearing quit if you stop limiting frames?
eispfogel Jan 15, 2023 @ 7:13am
Sadly - i have no freesync/gsync/vrr display. I guess i wouldn't have an issue with that.
Oh well....AMD.....

I do have a freesync display and it didn't help.

If you shut off the in game vsync and let it run up as high of framerate as it wants without doing any limiting does it quit tearing?

No. Tearing is always present. WIthout the limiting the beginning of the game, when the ship is shaking looks all wrong. And whenever i move the camera, or something flickers it looks extemely bad. with 59/60 fps limit i can see a slow moving line or sometimes a huge part where the tearing appear, but at least the flickering is not so bad(if the tearing happens in another part.

I have an old EEE Box with an Nvidia ION and Windows XP and that works. Same with other PCs and NVIDIA Hardware. Just the AMD one isn't working with older games. I also tried to apply some settings to NfS Underground 1-2 and Most Wanted but that fails too.
It seems...that only d3d10/11 and 12 games are working with the adrenalin drivers. Maybe OpenGL too.

Sorry...i don't want to bash AMD..it just sucks, as i wanted to move away from NVIDIA, but it sems i have no choice...neither VR, nor older games are working correctly with AMD GPUs :/
Intel is even worse.

That is odd you'd think an older GPU would run old games just fine. At least you got some other systems you can play it on. Wish I could help but that's all I know about it and what ended up working for me :/

DS1 I just set framerate to 72-90 and let it run and the tearing wasn't an issue anymore. Set at 60-60 or 60-65 it'd tear, had to set it above my monitor refresh rate of 72 for it to stop doin it. Same with DS2
