Black screen on startup
Hello, a year ago I bought and downloaded Dead Space and Dead Space 2.
I pass the two games , and a few months ago, I started to play again the dead space 1
and it worked well. But today I have started , and all the time the screen goes black, and if I give to reduce the screen, that not reopened and I have to close it.
Can anyone please help me

I found something that works for me. Right-Click Start Button, Search, Device Manager, Deactivate/Disable (HID-compliant game controller)
Used this on 11/9/2020 on Windows 10
Game has a few graphical glitches like bad screen taring in certain sections and funny ragdoll physics,
But other then that it runs and i currently got to the 3rd chapter. seems to work fine other then that.
(hope it helps you)
should have mentioned this I'm playing on Origin not Steam but what i did was on my computer itself not steam or origins settings so i think it'll still work
(for those whom are computer reatards)

Hi guys, I've come up with a solution of my own that I haven't seen anywhere. I fixed Dead Space 2 this way but it should work for 1 and maybe even 3 (haven't played 3 though so no promises). You can go straight to step 8 if you know what settings.txt is and have tried messing with it and the game still goes black screen and minimizes.

1. Open settings.txt with a notepad. It's located in the game's folder in C:\Users\your_username\AppData\Local\EA Games\
2. Change Window.Fullscreen = true to Window.Fullscreen = false
3. Just in case, also change the resolution to something like 800x600, the lines are Window.Height = and Window.Width =
4. Close the document, save the changes
5. Launch the game
6. Change the video settings to whatever suits you. DO NOT SET THE GAME TO FULLSCREEN yet though. Also, set the resresh rate in 'resolution' to 30 Hz (otherwise the physics might not work properly). Exit the game
7. Go back to settings.txt. Change Window.Fullscreen = false back to Window.Fullscreen = true
8. AND MOST IMPORTANTLY: Find the line Window.Hz = and set the number to your current desktop refresh rate (i.e. I use a 144 Hz monitor, therefore Window.Hz = 144). Close, save.

Voila! The game should now launch in fullscreen and work in 30 Hz. Seems the engine gets confused when it detects different refresh rates. Took me a while to figure it out, hopefully you won't have to. Another job well done, EA!
