Games like Amnesia: The Dark Descent, Soma and Call of Cthulu: Dark Corners of Earth. I think those three are some of the absolute best horror games in recent-ish times because they don't rely on jumpscares, rather they give you an impending since of doom and despair and also prey on the oldest human emotion: Fear of the unknown.
Anyone else reading this, here are a list of great horror games(besides the three I mentioned) that don't rely on jumpscares, or at least, don't rely on cliche jumpscares for their overall horror:
-Silent Hill 1-3
-Silent Hill Downpour
-P.T Silent Hills (can't get this anymore unfortunately)
-System Shock 2
-Alan Wake
-Resident Evil 7
-Penumbra: Black Plague
-Bloodborne (not really a horror game, but one of the very few that captured Lovecraftian horror as it's meant to be captured).
DOOM 3 rocks btw ..jump scares or no jump scares
Story sucks and basically everything but the gameplay is nice and it's a pretty fun game if you don't know where to go and what will happen.
but too bad that IdSoftware didn't release "The Lost Mission" by itself, mainly for those who already own the 2004-05 release of "Doom 3" and "Resurrection of Evil".
Aw really? Wth, I just own the original D3, and thought the "remastered" version just updated some textures or something.
