You could try this: https://joytokey.net/en/
Converts joystick to mouse keys, so you can play with controller mapped to keyboard controls, which could solve your problem if it's an issue with the game reading inputs from your controller.
Or you could try this idea: https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/boards/949616-dead-space/46258118
But make sure you scroll down in this link, others improved the OP's control scheme.
As an aside - The Dead Space Mouse Fix: https://community.pcgamingwiki.com/files/file/840-dead-space-mouse-fix/
does fix most if not all of the mouse issues, but I understand how you feel. Personally I've never held a proper controller more than twice in my life, and it feels absolutely alien to me.
However, turns out I didn't need it. Apparently, the issue fixed itself. Don't know why nor what caused it because I haven't done anything since posting the original help request, but things work fine now. I'm nearing the end of the game & haven't seen the issue since finishing the first chapter.
I've marked Cujo's post as the answer since I'm sure that'd have given me what I needed if the problem didn't just resolve itself somehow. Thanks again Cujo for the quick response & I hope anyone else that has this issue will find some answers here.
Knew I forgot to mention something. I did try that & it fixed the sensitivity problem, but the issue of pushing up on the left joystick forcing Isaac to "aim" was still there.
Like I said, I think the issue was just a matter of the game being built with an Xbox 360 controller in mind instead of an Xbox One controller. I actually have the same problem in Dead Space 2, but I haven't gotten far & am hoping the issue disappears there as well. Dead Space 1 & 2 are the only games I've had this issue on so... [shrug]
I can only assume that the sensitivity to the trigger functionality is more ... well, sensitive on Dead Space & HALO (only games I play I had the issue with, don't know if other certain shooters like COD would have the same).
Not sure if that helps any of you, but it's what was causing my issue.
