NO.
It may be *dated* but has a lot of things to uncover. In terms of the lore and story and characters Me1 is the one to take the most time over.
Focusing on the main quest only you miss out on half the game.
The latest game is only vaguely related to the three originals (same universe, ~200 years later, new main character, whole different galaxy) so there is really no reason to "run through them to play the latest game."
If you want to play them for their own sake (they are well worth it even by todays standards) then speed running through Mass Effect 1 (ME1) is not the way of going about it.
Aside form playing ME1 for itself the main reason to play it is to import the myriads of decisions you make in it into Mass Effect 2 (ME2) and from there into Mass Effect 3 (ME3).
All of these decisions impact outcomes, events, missions and characters in ME2/ME3.
If you are just rushing through ME1 you will miss many of the decisions and the ones you do make will be frenetic and half baked.
In turn this will limit decisions in ME2/ME3 leading to less then optimal outcomes to missions and story arcs, never meeting some characters, having other characters die, not having some missions etc...
If you wanna play ME:A that badly, just play that first then come back to these, because it is a waste to rush through these games.
Actually 634 years later to be precise. Currently playing it and nearly finished and yeah, there is really no connection to the old games except a few known races and some references here and there.
Also the old trilogy is FAR superior to this new game. Its not bad in itself but far from the quality of ME 1-3.
However I would not recommend rushing through the game. Take the time to fully enjoy the story. There's no point in rushing through, as it kinda ruins the experience imo. (ESPECIALLY the first one since you'll only be left with the rather mediocre, clunky gameplay if you do so.)
Also if you just wanna run through to get to Andromeda, don't bother. From what I've heard, ME:A is pretty much a new story in the ME universe with some hints towards the older games. If you're interested in that game, just go for it. ME1's only really worth it if the story actually interests you and you want to be able to import a character profile to ME2.
1) A volcanic one with subterranean ruins
2) A clouded ruins skyscraper one
3) A snowy research station
You can also complete the numerous assignments on the Citadel, various minor planets and spacecraft at this time.
After you complete any of the 2 of the major plot worlds a 4th major plot world will be unlocked.
At this point you can finish up the third world and assignments or skip to forth plot world.
However if you do the forth major plot world mission you will lose the free roam mode
Also if you do the forth plot world and have not completed any of the assignments that require you to do something off Citadel and then return to the Citadel then they will be permanently uncompletable.
After the forth major plot mission and additional main plot stuff you will get free roam mode back but travel to the Citadel will now be blocked.
In addition another major plot world will be unlocked however doing it is the "point of no return" so finish up any free roam assignments that you have.
After this it is more main plot stuff and the end of the game.
After you do that go back to the citadel to turn in your missions and talk to "the fan" along with some other ppl you can find
I normally then do Novera then the sectors that open up after that...then go back to the citadel.
After that its Feros the sectors that open up...back to the citadel then Virmire...then end of game.
Some "Assignments" (sidequests) impact ME2 and ME3, sometimes significantly.
