The reviewer is only 6 hours in so far, and has high praise for everything about the game except for its combat. He chose Nightblade, and it sounds like he's somewhat bored with its basic attack-roll-repeat playstyle. TBH, I had the same experience with the Nightblade and Vanguard during the demo, but I figured it would get better later in the game as access to various skills increased. Perhaps that's still true or perhaps not, but that concern is one of the reasons I'm going pure spellcaster where, after a certain point, I shouldn't need to basic attack at all.
I had high hopes after finding out Brian Mitsoda was narrative lead so it's great to hear people enjoying the story and characters.
Excited for tomorrow!
Lol, there are still people who believe in and "listen to" IGN after all the embarrassing reviews they've done for "some games."
You do realize that not all IGN reviewers are unreasonably biased, right? Did you actually read the review? To me, this one reads very reasonably and aligns with my experience with the demo.
Edit: This reviewer says their first run took over 30 hours and he didn't complete all the side quests. Seems like the devs completion time estimate is fairly accurate.
Speaking of side quests:
How long is the "exclusive quest" that is behind the paywall? And what are the rewards?
I'd say this game gets 7/10, maybe even 6; it has smooth combat and gorgeous visuals, which is why I bought the game in the first place, but everything else sucks. The EULA is disturbingly invasive, the 'story' is ridiculously cliche, the materials grind for vendors is annoying and so are the prices, there's multiple bugs that make getting some achievements impossible while other achievements are so ridiculous that no-one has collected them in almost a week... I could go on.
Glad I didn't get the 'exclusive' quest, I've heard it sucks brooms.
