stuck in Nishina research lab
Is this mission broken? I've talked to Raphael and he gave me a key that opens a door and I'm supposed to talk to him again. But he remains unreachable as all the doors that might lead to his location are either overgrown or broken, or both. There doesn't seem to be a way out of the place, either.

This mission sucks badly ...

First time I went thru it, took me a bit to twig to how things worked as well... Second time thru, was a breeze.

The control unit should be in the first area you come into, and you should not be able to leave that area (barring console commands....) without it.

As I said, it *should* be laying on a console somewhere when you first arrive. Of course, it's a beth game, so, it might have gone flying off, and is now on the floor somewhere.....

I'm pretty sure that this mission is bugged. According to the video, Raphael is supposed to be within the accessible area where I can talk to him, and only after he said he'll try to clear the way, I'll be taken back to the unburnt lab. In the video, you can see a quest marker appearing after that, and going to the marker brings me back to the unburnt lab.

Since Raphael is inaccessible in another room instead, I remain stuck. If that isn't a bug, how would I get unstuck?

The first area I come into when entering the lab is the security checkpoint. You can see in the video that nothing is being picked up there. Also, you can see in the video that there is no scanner being picked up until the protagonist arrives in the area where I'm stuck in.

I didn't see if you had the control unit.

But, if someone could supply the character ID of Rafael you could spawn then them to your position. I looked but could not find it.

I don't have a control unit.

Is there way to get the ID? I could clip through the wall again maybe to somehow get it?

Wouldn't respawning Raphael where he's supposed to be still disable achievements?

Yes, using console commands will highly likely disable achievements, whether you go after Rafael, or the control.

So I'll try to install a mod that prevents that ...

Unfortunately not. There's one on nexus but their website is too messed up.

I guess I'll have to go on without achievements :(

Actually Bethesda needs to fix my savegame, but they're not likely to do that and will get away with this. I'll have to give the game a bad review because of this since that's the only thing I can do.

Everyone, thanks for all your help!

Well, if you look at this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t66awTFO9gY&t=50s at timestamp 12:28.

That's basically where I am now, with the difference that Raphael is not following me like he does in the video after I shot the Cataxi.

I'm guessing that the quest marker is where Raphael is. That marker is in a place I can't get to. Raphael doesn't seem to be around other than maybe where the marker is, but I can't know that.

PS: Yes, in the video Raphael says he'll clear the path to the door. But he isn't there so I can't talk to him, and I'm not taken back to Ethan.

How can I make Raphael show up like he's supposed to?
I cry shenanigans! That youtuber didn't get the experimental breach!

There's very few places you can't get back despite progress in quest doesn't require it.

But without marker to help it's very difficult to find path to backtrack. And without the Control Unit you'll have very few backtrack possibilities.

You seem blocked on finding The Control Unit which can be found in the two universes.

Stop bother on Raphael, you don't need him but once, either you got a bug, either you achieved skip a step and got a marker screw up.

If you have a bug, and don't want load back, you can search for guide on using console to force a quest progress. You need find a guide explaining the method and then apply it to this quest.
Seems to me, without the control unit, he should not be able to leave the area where it is found..... Might be time to console command one into his inventory.
It can be surprising, and I can't explain why exactly, but it's possible get lost right before meet the scientific leader, at some points when deciding not follow the quest cursor and back track a bit, the quest cursor can start derail and making a bit difficult to find back the right quest path.

I suspect OP got a similar case but a bit later in the quest progression. And then just a quest cursor problem but failing find path, the two alternate timelines making it more tricky and some junction paths a bit hidden hard to find back without any quest cursor guidance.

I checked the video and eventually you didn't wait Raphael the second time, rushed forward and reach a timeline teleport point, but without the next quest marker to help you.

But at this point you don't need Raphael at all, his quote on clearing the way is for himself not for you.

Reach the lab, talk to the science leader, you should be able do it and this will probably reset your quest marker to next point and will give you the control unit from first timeline without Raphael.

For using console to unlock a quest step this guide gives general explanation on how do it (search ids, commands to apply, what's possible or not):
https://www.ign.com/wikis/starfield/How_to_Find_Starfield_Quest_IDs_and_Edit_Quest_Progress_with_Console_Commands

Myself I achieved use it for some other quest that get blocked for me. But for achievements as already quoted you'll need use a mod so they are re enabled after console use.

:steamthis: is as simple as downloading the file and copying it into your Starfield folder. Many of us have been using this mod since last year

Here's the PROBE CONTROL UNIT ID

However this won't work until you meet Maria in her lab and you both figure out what frequencies work.

So totally useless because if you don't have one already (from the other timeline) Maria will give you one.

OP should try reach Maria, he seems already have met the lab leader, next step is Maria and get a working control unit.

One of the best quests you have to change dimensions very often to move doors and switches in both worlds.
To do this you should use the device you find at Rafael.
