What GPU?
I have an i5 9400 and GTX 1660S. After looking at min. spec i guess i need an upgrade. Would a 3060ti do the job at 1080p? Cheers

Yes, a 3060 ti would run great at 1080p.

Ouch on the CPU though. And what's memory like? Entirely possible, given those specs, that you're at 8GB with no SSD. If your not doing multiple upgrades due to cost, you might want to reconsider getting it on PC and just go console.

9400 is better than minimum requirements so i'm fine there, just. 16GB RAM and SSD.

Assumed that Microsoft has centered on XBOX and neglected the PC port I will assume that you need a GTX 3080 ti or 3070 ti minimum, forget about the specs in the store page, they are total trash. In 2023 no one should play such games at 1080p, that's not why you have bought such cards or a modern computer monitor.
And needless to say that you shouldn't buy the latest XBOX console to play at 30fps. What are they thinking cheating people like that...

The I5 9400 teamed with a RTX 3060ti is going to be a bottleneck for your system. A RTX 2080 would be a better match.

No one is cheating anyone with the game. And no, if you meet the min recommended PC specs you should be able to play the game at 1080p just fine. You are assuming too much. But, time will tell which of us is correct.

And a lot of players are fine with playing video games at 1080p. Just because you wouldn't be, does not mean everyone else should feel the same way. Different strokes for different folks is something to keep in mind.

Want the correct answer?

Get the highest tier GPU you can afford without breaking your budget. It will last longer (play more games into the future - future proof...) and you will enjoy the performance and thus the games.

When the new cards come out I always get the best from the last generation when they inevitably go on sale. Enjoyed a 980Ti for years, but then the whole world was upside down as far as GPUs go... But ultimately your choice.

Seeing how the problems with XBOX were settled, I think that for the PC version you will also need to have to take some "Creative Solutions" (to take the words from Todd Howard).

Be careful who you listen to around here.

A lot of people are going to be angry on release day because they are running this game below, or at the bare minimum required.

It's as if everyone is promoting a failed recipe for success. Feeding off each other's low-grade hardware. I've seen this happen hundreds of times.

You're expecting to use an 8GB card and a five-year-old processor. To run a cosmic monstrosity of a game.

Just remember, there will be a lot of people not cheering on release day. When they discover how much this ogre can eat.

Such as using settings more in line with your system's potential? If so, i agree.

You have exactly zero evidence for that. Nobody of us has any evidence.

If Bethesda is seriously working on the PC version right now then in 1 week or so the store page's requirement infos will change and it will not please everyone.

Don't upgrade to a 3060ti. I have one and I'm happy with the performance, but the 8Gb of VRAM will break its neck sooner or later.
My next card will be an AMD one, because they deliver reasonable VRAM contrary to the stupid ♥♥♥♥ Nvidia is doíng. Go get one too if you want to upgrade.
DamZe Jun 18, 2023 @ 6:32am
I would hold off upgrading any hardware until reviews and performance tests are out for the game.
