Is the game good yet?
Same as title.
Bought at launch, played for a bit, got really really bored, and stopped all while hoping updates might make it more playable.
So I ask again, is it good yet, or still just a beta for future bethesda RPG mechanics?

Ngl, low hopes. But who knows, maybe something makes it more than "Story based No Man's Sky launch" simulator now.
Almost 2 full years and this game still sucks the same as day one.

Truly amazing for any game studio, much less one that's been around for decades. I have zero faith in ES6 and that's one of my fav IP's so I take no satisfaction saying that.
It's dead IP. As soon as the majority (not rabid foaming at the mouth Bethesda can do no wrong ultra fans) figured out that the game was as shallow as a puddle, it got abandoned and shelved by the devs. There is no Starfield in your future.

There has been a lot patches and a part of them has introduced various elements to enrich your gameplay. Like using a buggy to explore a large area. Or an overhaul in the bounty system, allowing you to find for open bounties on many places. In contrary to a simplistic "kill" mission, you have a little more (two basically...) options to have the bounty sorted out. Some quests have been expanded on.

There are also some "Quality of Life" changes, like a different map, more finetuned ship building, a more fine-grained control in difficulty settings, ...

There is a new DLC but apparently it is not so well received. Generally speaking (I did not have tried it) it is not that interesting for many people. The rating (despite being review bombed at its launch) speaks for it.

With the release of Creation Kit and a Creations platform, mods can be added to the game in a simple, convenient way.

If you think that these additions does not spark you to try the game again, that is okay. You can focus on something else. Perhaps you can check again later, over a year? That you have made a post to see if it is worth to return is clearly something. It does not come out of blue.

All of the basics are the same. I fail to see how any content can change the core of the game. Might change your perception of the game, but not the game itself. So you should probably expect the gameplay to be about the same, plus some tweaks and additions.

This is the same case with basically every "redeemed" game, like Cyberpunk. Since release, CP2077 has been essentially the same game. Perceptions changed, not the game.

It's also the same with older games like Skyrim. Lots of people get mired in their own, personal "golden ages". So when Skyrim came out, Morrowind and Oblivion diehards thought it was terrible. And today, those who played Skyrim first think it's the be-all-end-all. It's not just games, it's also music, and movies, etc. More than a significant number of people just... stagnate... with the entertainment art they enjoyed in their teens and early twenties.

That's all a roundabout way of saying this: No one can answer this question for you, it's highly subjective.

No it ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ sucks. It's a complete ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ game. It's terrible and there is no way Bethesda or modders can fix this.
Fun fact: This game shows that TES 6 will also suck.
It has always been perfectly playable.
If you didn't like what you played, then you'll still feel like that most likely, since the game has not fundamentally changed.

I'd be curios to know what you'd want to be "not bored"
Game is absolute the same as on launch, well they added finally a map of the city and a vehicle. but thats it.
Rest is same old same old.

The game loop is the same.

What has been patched in is, some decent/should have been in on day1 QoL stuff. An actual map is great, and the Buggy/Car thing is alright to hack it about in for a laugh.

So if you thought the game was ♥♥♥♥ on release, I doubt the updates would do anything to change your mind. However if you were on the fence and some of the lacking features was a deal breaker or.. You suffered poor performance and shelved it, then it might be worth an install.

Mods are out and some of them are pretty decent, so perhaps some mileage there.

Some bugs have been fixed by Beth. Performance has increased. Lighting/shaders have improved. A more usable map was added, along with a buggy to drive around. And the 29% recommended DLC for $30.

Other than that - the basic gameplay loop hasn't changed, unless you use mods heavily. And I think a lot of them are Quality of Life mods, no real big quest stuff there yet.

its not bad. its not amazing. its decent. it can be pretty fun exploring. but remember. space is vast. lots of emptiness. sure as hell aint skyrim. its a 7/10 for me.

Fair assessment. I think the mods will be getting more complex over time, there are already some overhauls and mechanics changes as well as quest chains but nowhere near on the same level yet as their previous games. (but then, those have had years to work on them.) But I wouldn't buy a game based on mods, present or future.

There's lots of qol stuff, difficulty modifiers, vehicles, Creations etc but if somebody didn't like the game in 2023 then there is not much reason to think they'd like it today. It's still the same game.

The game was very playable at launch. I played on the same save I started on pre-launch day for well over 1,000 hours.

So yes the game was playable at launch and of course still is now. I'm still playing and there are thousands of Let's play and modding videos out there where they are playing it just fine as well.
