Steam Deck?
Any hope for steam deck support or should I stop holding my breath?

Support? Never. You can get it running but it's rough and not what I would call and ideal experience and not something you should buy with the sole intent to play on it.
Steam Deck is not nearly powerful enough in it's current iteration. I would stop holding your breath.

It's all I have for PC gaming atm unfortunately, but I have been able to run a few newer games on it and they've all ran great. I think it's more about the devs and how much effort they're willing to put into optimization.

Even if the Deck were powerful enough to run 4K at 60fps, the screen is way too small for a game with this level of detail.

Nah the screen size is fine it’s not bad while rummaging around at 18 or so fps. The slide show has plenty of detail.
I assume nobody responding has actually played Starfield on the Steam Deck, because it runs very well and looks great. I don't know why it's not officially listed as Steam Deck supported.

Really? What settings are you running it at?
It does run, it's not great but it's playable. I'd look online for what settings work best.
Your in space.

id recommend against holding your breath in your suit.

I have it on my Deck and it does not in any way run or look great.

I wouldn’t want to play this game on a small screen.
Space is supposed to be big.

Same here, its barely playable in handheld mode and trying to push it to a tv/monitor just causes emotional damage.

Edit : I havent attempted launching it in over a year, so maybe they fixed it?

steam deck here. i played hubbed up to a tv with mouse and key. that saying it runs fine so long as you turn everything down to low or off. just dont expect your drams of owning a massive ship you wont be able to load your game if you save inside of one you own. a mission instance is fine. let me be clear a massive ship will be bigger than a borge cube. so long as your ships stay compact you will be fine. talking about space you can move around in the ship. my ships consist of a workbench hab a science hab and 2 living quarter habs. i hope this is enough of an explanation for you.
