Outpost building leaves a lot to be desired.
In fallout 4, I could build massive structures without NEARLY the hassles I see in Starfield. Pieces simply will NOT snap to where I want them. It is a perfectly acceptable spot for said piece, but, it will snap EVERYWHERE else, EXCEPT where I actually want it..... The logic for the right-click stepping thru snap points is just stupid..... And THAT is an UNDERSTATEMENT....

Am I missing a trick here somewhere? Are there any mods that make this better??? It has gotten to the point that it is so frustrating, I simply don't want to deal with it. I want my Fallout 4 style building back please.

I don't disagree.

It takes some work. I think I have the most success by backing off and looking down at times when its really difficult. When connecting Habs remember the hallways (they have several variations as well).

My main complaint is the Height adjustment mechanic is atrocious. They really needed Foundations like Fallout 4. Stairs also.

When I mention Starfield's Shortcomings. Outpost building is one of my top 3 (in second place of the three only surpassed by dialogue choice/General Storyline).

Fo4 settlements sucked so bad I was thankful for the Sim Settlements mod.
F4 settlements sucked so bad I didnt bother much with them in this game.

I have tried doing it in first person, third person, moving myself around at different angles, etc. Sometimes it works, but, trying to place that last piece of fence is a frigging nightmare. It simply will NOT go where I want it. Doesn't matter what I do......

Settlements are one of the things which make Fallout 4 one of the best games ever made. Very satisfying to see the commonwealth take shape to my own design.

You do understand that you are NOT helpful, right? If you don't have any actual information to contribute, just stay away, ok?

They would be if they worked, instead they are the biggest flaw, its like Heyyou described in the post above you, they just dont work.

I completely disagree. I hated the settlement schtick. At least in Starfield it's entirely up to you and not really tied into a story plot.

This is very helpful man, I am only being real here xD I think I spared myself alot of pain by skipping them on my first playthrough of F4, and I think I spared myself alot of pain by skipping them in Starfield.

You should do the same, if you want build settlements I recommend Space engineers way more fun and you can play online with others xD

Being real what?

I really don't care about your experiences, or how much you hate it. I am well aware of your feelings toward the game, this thread is an attempt to find ways to FIX or IMPROVE it. Nothing you have typed here falls into either category. Please just go away.

There is no fixing outposts mess tho, I just kinda skipped them, I dont think there is any better solution.

This is my advice, take it or leave it ;p

What i find to be the problem is the ground is sometimes uneven. There do exist spaces where there's a big flat area. Ship landing spots. When you land on a random spot on a planet, your ship is sitting on a big flat area. Then sometimes other ships will come land nearby. They also land on big flat areas. These in my opinion are the best spots for building outposts except the available minerals aren't always ideal.

I have 'foundations' in my structures list. I put down a few of those, so I have a nice flat surface to play with. Trying to place objects on it though, is somewhat.... problematic. :D

Are those foundations from a mod?
