Recently Purchased - Any Mod Reccomendations?
As the title suggests, I have only recently purchased this game (without the DLC). Any mod recommendations to enhance the experience?

Robin Locke - Uc Fly Girl Companion- (paid mod) another companion you can get early game, has a ton of dialogue and her own personal quest

Crew Eats Food- crew on your ship will consume food/drink giving you a small xp buff when they are properly fed, and a small penalty when they are not

^ Everything on this list can be gotten on the creations page in game and all can be used together without mod conflicts. I also recommend you go to Nexus and get Loot(it's a mod) and install that and run it any time you download/update a mod and it will sort your load order for you on it's own. I marked which mods are paid mods, anything that doesn't have the (paid mod) tag in it's description was a free mod.

I do have and run some more paid mods that aren't on the list, not because they aren't good, they are just more specific and would be something that an individual specifically wanted in their game and not something that would be as useful in general to all playthroughs as the ones I put in above list.

I primarily use mods from Nexus, and I know some, possibly most, of these are on both Nexus and Creations, I'm not 100% on that.

Lyria is a great companion, but a paid Creation like the last poster said.
Pilot Assist Bot[www.nexusmods.com] is cute, helpful and doesn't get in the way - free mod. Adds ship related perks.
Rosie Tannehil[http//Rosie+Tannehil] is another great companion mod that turns Rosie Tannehil (Akila companion) into an actual doctor.

Speaking of companions, if you do pay attention to the generic crew you can hire at various bars, these can help with immersion...
Various Crew[www.nexusmods.com] increases variation to the pool so you encounter less clones :) and...
Tell Me Your Name[www.nexusmods.com] expands the generic names of interactive (non-"citizen") NPCs in the game, including random crew.

As a base to some mods there is of course SF Script Extender[sfse.silverlock.org], Address Library for SFSE[www.nexusmods.com], and Unnoficial SF Patch[www.afkmods.com]. Some mods will rely on the first two, and the USFP can stop issues before you're aware they exist.

I consider these ones essential:
Vastly improves inventory UI, StarUI Inventory[www.nexusmods.com]
Makes the default use-health-item function intelligent (auto-picks cure to match afflictions), Smart Doc[www.nexusmods.com]

And this one near-essential, enhancing the HUD: Scanner Encumbrance Display w Time[www.nexusmods.com] (+ has more options, like showing power name near health bar)

I also have a bunch of visual, appearance and outfit mods, plus around 20 Creations - but I'm out of time to post, so below is just the greatest hits that I can remember without pulling up my MO load order :)

I'd also endorse the Dark Universe: Crossfire (more space encounters, some deadly), Bedlam: NPC Location Randomiser (can, but not always, make POIs more interesting by mixing up spawn points and giving NPCs ability to call reinforcements), Planet POI and Creature Density Increased (more POI, more fauna), Smarter Spacesuit Auto Hide (better auto hide of suits), Smart Captains Planet Resource Database (easier way to find resources on planets), Improved Enemy Ship AI (less dumb enemy ships), Ship Commander Extraordinaire (better balanced ship crew limits and other tweaks), Trees Rescaled (larger flora), DarkStar Manufacturing (deeper weapon and armour systems), Functional Infirmaries (goes well with Rose Tannehill, infirmary beds work), Neutral LUTs (colour balancing), Stellar Glass (nicer glass tex), Orange Black (or is it Visible Credstick? easier to see credsticks), Improved NAT Lettering, Cleaner Floor Glass, Starluminous (lighting overhauls), No Space Suit Va'ruun/Spacers/Crimson Fleet (has the faction member NPCs drop their space-suits in breathable areas and switch into faction themed clothing - requires clothing mods too).

OP, before modding your game, I would give the vanilla experience a try first. In some respects, I've learned that more mods, especially the kind that change game mechanics, can make the game less fun. The vanilla experience is pretty good already, and I would give that a shot first before you mod the game at all. But, after you have had a good solid play through, then start looking at these suggestions.

The most important part is having a rig beefy enough to give you a good experience, and make sure it's installed on an SSD.

Have fun! I know I certainly have :)

I would also like to add that most players mod suggestions are based on their particular play styles and they mod the game to that end. Every play style is different, as I'm sure you are well aware, and so many of these mod suggestions given by other players may not work with your particular play style. Also, players mod games to "fix" things they perceive as inadaquite or lacking in game play, but that also differs from person to person and is very subjective. My list of essential mods will be different than yours most likely. I'm happy to post a list here, but I really recommend not modding the game at all for your first play through. Then, once you've sunk 100 or so hours into the game, you'll have a better idea of what types of mods you would want. Then you can ask more specifically here in the forums and get more useful answers according to how you personally play the game.

One of the flying vehicles for easy planet/moon exploring, I personally use the Sub orbital shuttle, but also the Neo-8 looks equally cool.

Whatever you do for mods I highly recommend starting with the Unofficial Starfield Patch - USFP[www.nexusmods.com]

That's the one mod I'd recommend first and foremost.

Some good suggestions here. Should I use Nexus's Vortex program to install/manage them all?

I'm using Vortex and I'm also mixing and matching from Nexus and Creations. If it's on Creations, I get it from there, otherwise Nexus. I only have a handful of Nexus Only mods. If you're only going with Creations, you don't need a Mod Manager, and it really won't do anything for you. In that case, it's just another layer to worry about. However, if you want to use Nexus mods, I would strongly suggest a Mod Manager.
