How to steal the Bounty hunter ship
Sorry if this was asked before, the search function didn't really help.

I have the Wanted trait, so I regularly get attacked by Bounty Hunters on planet surfaces. I also have max Piloting skill, so I can pilot all category ships.

Yet, when I try to steal the Bounty Hunters' ship, I am "not Authorized to pilot" it. Why? If I meet them in space, their ships can be stolen. Why not on planet surface? Is this a bug?

Could be a lore reason, the pilot needs to enter in some ID code of sorts that "unlocks" the ship for action, when landed the engines are locked down to prevent such theft, while in space the ship is fully "unlocked", i.e, the keys are in the ignition already kind of thing.

I don't know but it would be funny to run up on some pirates and sneakily take their ship. Though they could just do the same to you if that was the case lol

Certain ships won't allow you to steal them. I don't know what the criteria for this is, but I am assuming that the bounty hunter ships under the wanted trait fall into this "can't steal their ship" category. Weird and kind of dumb but there you go.

Source: I try to steal every ship I can.

I assume it's bugged, personally. There are a few other cases where random, unimportant ships also can't be stolen on the ground, though those usually can't even be entered.

That said, I think I did actually steal one once. Unless it was random ecliptics. The difference was that it had *just* landed so I am absolutely sure I murdered every soul onboard or vacating the ship before I tried it. So maybe it's tied to that? I know I've seen some of them wander off after landing before and I have no idea where those went.
Yeah I don't think it's possible to grab that ship.

If the ship is able to be stolen and you need to kill everyone onboard then the game will tell you this. Most likely there are just certain ships the developers did not want you to be able to steal for balance reasons, or it bugs out. I have ran into enough of this though to assume that the former is probably true.

Thanks for the answers.

It seems we need to wait until the modders solve this. :)

When the occupants that leaves the ship isn't dead you can't take it, plus the ship is able to leave even if the occupants are dead.

I suppose there's also a chance Bethesda may change it, assuming it wasn't intended in the first place.

You can take it, if the occupants are outside, you just need to kill the ones inside. Also, the ship can leave while you are on it. it is a stupid death when it flies into a fight and the owners are fighting you, instead of the attacking spaceships, so their ship just explodes, with you on board.

But if you are getting the mentioned message it means you already killed everyone, otherwise you get a different message.

I sometimes encounter the bug that a familiar workbench is locked and cannot be used. In these cases, I just load from a recent save and poof! it's working again. If that doesn't work, you could try saving, quiting the game entirely and then restarting. (You might want to wait a few minutes before restarting so things will reset.) A third option would be the console setownership command, but you should be aware that too much fiddling with the console can really screw things up. (In Fallout 4, I had some fun using addtofaction to make individual bandits friendly, so they would suddenly turn on their buddies, but then I discovered that this affected all bandits of the same TYPE, so now I was friends with bandits I had never seen before.)

Those Bounty Hunter landing ships simply aren't stealable.

But, let's face it: Though the first Claymore you find looks really great, but they're not all that good, and you'll get the likes, later, too. Also, selling captured ships isn't really lucrative, the registration free is hefty.

If not a bug than it is a weird design decision.

The Claymore III is one of the best ships Ingame, actually its the best for Category Damage

I dont talk about selfbuild ships cause they are Monsters, i think you can top everything with them. But in findable ships the Claymore is really one of the best. (But you need atleast lvl 62 to find it)
