What am I supposed to do as a beast hunter? I'm just doing main quest at the moment.

what ever you want. your background job is more just flavoring, opens up new conversation opening in some chats.

Profession only affects starting skills and some dialogue options. You should run across side quests as the main quest progresses (like joining Vanguard).

It mostly just what perks you start with. I've noticed a couple of dialogue moments but nothing major.

I suppose you could survey planets and kill large creatures on life bearing worlds then sell or use the resources harvested from them. I don't think there's an in-game system or questline that specifically supports those kinds of traits per se. You just kind of have to roleplay it in your head.

If yoiu want to roleplay it, start the UCSec quest line ... it is worth for a Beast Hunter !
Just enter the Sec office, when you leave the spaceport on the right side

not even sure on the "starting skills bit" as you still have to put a point to get rank one? (maybe get the 1st lvl effects, but cant move on till you spend a skill point for rank 1?

Your background starts you will 3 skills at level one. Beast Hunter for example starts you with Fitness, Ballistics, and Gastronomy, no skill points required.

Is joining the United Colonies and becoming a citizen the best faction to roleplay a Beast Hunter?
