Special power speculation?
What do you think the special power that made the enemies levitate is? Do you supposed its something to do with harnessing the power of Gravity? The power of a black hole?

Yeah, it looks like we might be getting affected by all the artifacts we'll be collecting and have some kind of control over gravity. Pretty crazy. I hope we can use it to levitate a beer from the fridge to wherever we're sitting in our ship.

My guess about what was shown in the advertisement is its a stasis field that works on low level hostile characters.

Alittle of Dead Space, and a pinch of Mass Effect, with a Sprinkle of Knights of the Old Republic

It's probably upgradable too. Having more effects as you level up.

It's just a gravity disruption ability, it's not some kind of super fantasy magical power like the force

Well artificial gravity is in basically every sci-fi and would change the world if it was ever discovered. Not impossible since flight is technically artificial gravity, especially hot air baloons.

Anyway Starfield has gone into more realism with having the lack of artificial gravity, "Zero G". So any ads saying its trying for a more realistic world are in fact true.

Since there is artificial gravity how was it discovered?

The unknown effect this topic is about is alot like artificial gravity so who knows.

I hope there is space magic in the game for more thoughtful players that dont want to be all about guns and stuff though and i think its great to have that in sci-fi.

Bethesda games do have at least some diplomacy to avoid fighting, and also stealth to avoid fighting, and again i think its really great to have none guns in a space sci-fi so space magic is great. Unarmed combat has been featured as well which is great.

I am not a sci-fi pacifist LOLOL and looking forward to epic space battles, just saying none guns blasting gameplay, exploring, researching, base building, ship building, trading, crafting, farming, and more is really great, including space magic, otherwise known as sci-fi.

Psionics, I guess. They really only teased that one tiny bit, so we can't really tell if its fleshed out powers, a single power, multiple "schools" like spells, or whatever. We can only be pretty sure that it's the top point in the menu circle surrounding the character in the character sheet (which, hey, just realized, character sheets are back!).

As I posted in other thread:
In American science fiction of the 1950s and '60s, psionics was a proposed discipline that applied principles of engineering (especially electronics) to the study (and employment) of paranormal or psychic phenomena, such as extrasensory perception, telepathy and psychokinesis.[1] The term is a portmanteau formed from psi (in the sense of "psychic phenomena") and the -onics from electronics.[1][2][3][4] The word "psionics" began as, and always remained, a term of art within the science fiction community[5] and—despite the promotional efforts of editor John W. Campbell, Jr—it never achieved general currency, even among academic parapsychologists. In the years after the term was coined in 1951, it became increasingly evident that no scientific evidence supports the existence of "psionic" abilities
not brain surgery, it's psionics: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Psionics

I wish they wouldn't add magic / pseudoscience to a Sci-Fi game... but I kinda enjoy hard Sci-Fi. And yeah, I can understand the need for FTL travel, hard to have characters to interact with if everyone outside the ship is dead after a couple of years relativistic travel. Not like you're going to hand in a quest to someones grandson. And you can somewhat explain away FTL communications via entangled quantum pairs, or stable micro wormholes. Even artificial gravity is fine, while I'd prefer ships that are oriented along the thrust axis like in The Expanse. But telekinesis or telepathy or midichlorians... meh.
